One of my girl friends just told me yesterday that she was going in this morning to be induced because she had extra amniotic fluid. Has anyone ever heard of this before?
One of my husband co-workers is pregnant with twins and is due the middle of September- She had to have excess amniotic fluid drained earlier in the week. She is currently in ICU trying to keep the babies in for awhile longer.
She has some other issues besides the excess amniotic fluid- She has not been eating due to her fear of gaining weight (I'm assuming she has/had an eating disorder) the babies are malnourished so she is also currently on IV nutrition for the babies...so sad!
This happened to a friend of mine. Her doctor induced her about a week and a half before her due date. I don't remember all of the details but her doctor was concerned about her water breaking and the cord getting wrapped around the baby's neck or something so her doctor said she needed to break her water in a controlled environment. She was measuring at 43-44 weeks at her last appointment, she had so much excess fluid. Nothing happened with the baby's cord, her doctor broke her water and she labored for nearly 24 hours and ended up having a c-section because she wasn't progressing. Good luck to your friend!
This also happened to a coworker of mine. It was about two years ago so I don't remember all of the details. I do remember that her pregnancy was complicated for other reasons as well and they ended up delivering her son about four weeks early. Again, this could have been due to the other complications going on though.
I had this with my DS. It's called polyhydramniosis. It's caused my many different things (GD, kidney problems, brain problems) and sometimes for no reason. I measured that I had 3x the normal amount of amniotic fluid. My doctor induced me at 37 weeks, becuase if my water would have broke on it's own, there was a chance that the extra fluid/force would cause a cord prolapse(the cord would have came out before the baby and he would have died. All turned out well for both of us. When my son was born he did have an enlarged kidney, but an ultrasound showed that he was healthy.
Hoping this does not happen with this pregnancy, just added worry and stress!

I had this with my last DD. I ended going into labor at 36 weeks and the cord was wrapped around her neck a few times. She was healthy when she was born and they didn't have a cause for it. They didn't detect it, for me, until I was in labor so it's good they caught it early with your friend.
I had this with my DS 22 yrs ago, and at that time, I didn't know about it, nor did they do anything special. I went to full term and had a c/s due to him being breech on top of my bicornuate uterus.
I actually found out about the Polyhydramnios when I was pg with DD 7 yrs ago, when a Dr. had mentioned it. I only had it that one time, but am glad to see that now a days, Dr.'s are more on top of things!
PS, one thing it did cause was more stretch marks then I probably would have gotten with pg # 2 & 3...Oh well...
