Pregnant after a Loss

chipped wisdom tooth

i definitely chipped my upper left side wisdom tooth yesterday. it hurt like hell when it happened but now doesn't hurt at all, but is jagged on the edge. two problems now. first. can i get novocaine or anything if i get this shaved down or if i have to get this removed? second. my mother in law is my dentist and we haven't told anyone we're pregnant yet, and i really want to wait till the end of the first trimester. i'm thinking about finding another dentist but she knows about the chipped tooth because it happened when i was at my inlaws yesterday for a bbq. yikes. any ideas?

  • I would talk to your MIL about it.  Even though you might be telling her you are pregnant before you wanted to, she will hopefully then truly listen to you and your concerns regarding the tooth AND pregnancy.

When I was at the dentist a few weeks ago he found a cavity that he said could wait.  He said he would wait until the second trimester and then, based on it's size at the time, fix it without novacaine or just wait.

I hope your tooth feels better and you get it fixed soon!

  • Eeek and ouch. That is quite the predicament...ummm doctor patient confidentiality? Lol not sure how that would really work out though ;( If you go to another dentist she will likely know, being you didn't go to her....and that will likely cause unneccesarry drama. Geez why did you have to chip it? Lol If it's not hurting now, I would wait till 2nd tri. How far along are you? Is it something you think can wait?

  • You can get dental work done. You can't have epinephrine while pregnant. They will use carbocaine. Just tell her you are sensitive to epi and only want carbocaine.
