can we talk shaving bikini line tips pls?

I much prefer waxing but the whole waiting for it to grow in thing gets me every time- if you go to a pool multiple times a week, how can you ever wait for it to grow in to get waxed again? the timing is confusing to me.

But, no matter what type of soap/cream I use, brand new razor, hot shower, I still get razor burn/red bumps all the time and it drives me crazy.

I guess I could do nair or something but that seems like a PITA too.

Pls help me....

  • get one of those bottoms that looks like a skirt/meanwhile you can wait for the hair to grow back to wax or when you shave you shave w/ the direction of the hair n not opposite...just a suggestion?!

  • I have the exact same problem, but I found that liberally slathering on Bikini Zone cream helps tremendously.  I will use it daily for the first 3 or 4 days, starting immediately after getting out of the shower.  It's the only thing I've found that works, because I'm scared of waxing.
  • Hmmm will have to look for that stuff.

I do generally shave in the direction of the hair but often find that I will be able to see the hair by the next morning, which I guess is not a big deal if I shower before heading to the pool & can shave again.

  • You can get the Bikini Zone anywhere- drug stores, Target, Walmart, etc.
  • I have the same problem.

I'm sure you know that shaving with the direction of the hair down there doesn't get a clean shave...I know I have to pretty much shave in every direction before it's smooth...and then it's red and irritated in a few minutes anyway, despite aftershave or lotion.

I know it's a lubrication issue...best results I've gotten was when I was putting heavy lotion on for 24hrs before, then conditioner for a few minutes before the shaving gel/cream.

It's a PITA, but I've heard (probably from people who don't have sensitive skin) that the more often you do it, the more accustomed your skin will become. I'm skeptical. Good luck.

  • On the 6-9 Months board they've talked about Magic Shaving Powder that supposedly works way better than Nair.  Haven't tried it myself but it's on my list.  There's a post about it, I'm sure you could ask about bikini line.  Plus you don't have to wait to let the hair grow out first.  HTH, I'm looking forward to trying it.

  • Yeah...  I got swim shorts.  I am more comfortable in them and I don't have to worry about this issue.
  • I used to have the razor burn bumps too...aveno shave cream did the trick!

I have the same problem on my legs sometimes so I use diaper rash cream and lotion.

  • I heard deodorant helps, but I haven't tried it.
  • i have never used bikini zone, but cotizone(sp) cream does the trick for me

I'm three treatments into laser hair removal and i'm seeing some results.. heres hoping it works

  • Ahhhh thanks. I want to do laser treatment like everywhere. But maybe I could get it as a xmas gift next year for bikini line (and maybe underarms?)....

Sigh. Will try all recommended tricks, thank you! Oh & I do have skirt & shorts bathing suits but felt like I was slipping into the frump zone...

I got 2 new suits from Lands End in the aquaterre line...reallyliked them, tried on for MH and I was saying maybe I'd see what the other top options were so I was flipping through the catalog and he said----- "oh, did you order this from the mom's bathing suit catalog or what?" AHHHHH......

Aw, thanks! I feel like at the pool all the women are staring at my bumpy bikini line. haha. Esp the ones who look REALLY good in their bikinis and are really tan. hah.

  • Ha!  I feel like people are starting too and am evening returning a bathing suit over it--tried it on with undies and the strip was not removed--couldn't try it on in the store with the kids (I hope they take it back).  Hang out at the kiddie pools....they do much more for you self confidence being surrounded by other mom-bodies.

  • I haven't tried any kind of depilatory down there but when I do shave I use conditioner. I know it sounds odd but its the best thing ever, a billion times better than shaving cream or soap. It helps moisturize and helps me from getting bumps.
