Cloth Diapering

Liners

I have been cd'ing for 2 years and never d desired to use a disposable liner for poops. Well, I had a cd party last night and the consultant brought bummis liners and of course my husband had to have them. He was shocked that he didn't know about them and is pumped to try them out. I am freaked that they are going to ruin our plumbing. Whats your experience? The consultant suggested plopping the poo off the liner and then tossing it instead of flushing, maybe I will try that.

Re: Liners

  • We never flushed ours.  We just used them to plop the poo into the toilet and tossed them into the trash.  Flushing anything that isn't tp down the toilet makes me nervous.

  • We use Imse Vimse liners but we never flush them. We stick them in the diaper genie that we had from when we used disposables. I have heard that they can back up your system. I know the Imse Vimse ones can be washed up to 3 times so I worry that it would take them a long time to break down since they come out perfect when I wash them.

  • I would throw them away. I would absolutely not flush them. I have tried Bummis and Imse Vimse. I've washed both of them. Neither one disintegrated. If something can survive a washing machine I don't think they should be flushed down the toilet. I've actually washed the Bummis ones multiple times and reused them (for pee ones - I just trashed the poop ones). The IV ones get misshapen and kind of turn into strips of fabric. Still not something I would want in my toilet!
