Did Libby's rash improve when you switched to sposies? We're still struggling with the rash even with the derm suggestions. We did them and her rash looked MUCH better for awhile and now it's back to looking bad again. I called Friday and was lucky to score an appt for Tuesday so we'll see what they have to say. We're trying corn starch now (only because I KNOW it's not yeast!) and that seems to be helping some... I'm at my wits end and I feel so frustrated. I hate to go to sposies but I feel like it may be our only option. I don't even know how to shop for them bc all of the chemicals in them scares me!
Re: *lori- libby's mama*
Ah Sarah, I am so sorry B is still struggling with diaper rash! Ugh. Libby had one off-and-on from mid-January to early-March. We finally cleared it up by having her in sposies 24/7 for about a month. Then, we put her back in PFs with Thirsties Covers by day and keep her in sposies overnight. That has resolved it for us. Seems her overnight CD (a Thirsties Duo with an added hemp doubler) was causing her to get red/rashy overnight and then it would just exacerbate over the day with walking/chaffing. So, as long as she doesn't get red/rashy overnight the daytime seems fine in CDs.
We use Huggies Pure and Natural. Now, they are totally green-washed and not eco-friendly at all. That said, we tried 7th generation and they leaked! What I like about Huggies Pure and Natural is that they have NO smell/perfumes. They also feel more like cloth than the 7th Gen and Pampers and even regular Huggies we tried. They do have the absorbent gel, but so does 7th Gen and in all honesty I think the gel is what keep Libby's skin dry overnight. We slather her with CA Babies Calendula cream and then put the sposie on. If she's at all red/rashy I'll use CA baby diaper cream and/or vaseline. She's in it for 10-12 hours overnight and we've never had a leak. Sometimes, we use them when we're out all day (like when we drive down to see my MIL who lives 2 hours away or if we're traveling by air).
I get them at Target...70 for $20 (at least for the size 3s). Not the least expensive, but since she doesn't wear very many they last us a while. I think Inamara uses them as well for her son. You can get coupons sometimes for anywhere from $1-3 off. And they have a rewards program (there's a sticker with a code inside the package that you log online).
Anyway, it's not what I wanted, I'd prefer to CD 100% but I couldn't take another day of Libby being rashy and uncomfortable. So it's our compromise. I figure we did 100% CD for the first year of her life, so that's been good and hopefully she'll PL early and we won't be using sposies forever!
GL! Maybe once B's rash totally clears you can go back to CD fulltime? I think you'll just have to wait and see. But try doing sposies for a week or two and see if it helps her skin heal.

Thanks ladies! Lori, we just went out and bought the dipes you suggested and put Bella in one for nap. We'll see how it goes. We also put a little neosporin on the open areas- that has seemed to help a little bit. It's so sad and frustrating! We have another pediatric dermatology appt on Tuesday because on Friday her rash looked worse so I called and scheduled it. If the rash looks better than I might cancel... we'll see. I'm sad that she's in sposies but we've tried EVERYTHING else and nothing has helped for any length of time.... I'm hoping this is it. We've stripped our diapers several times too and it seemed to help for awhile but not long term which is frustrating!
At our Target the diapers were buy 2 packs and get a $5 gift card and I had two coupons so it wasn't too bad... Funny enough Bella and Grayson could both wear size 3's!! But we're keeping him in CD since he's fine, I just thought it was funny! They go from 16lbs-28 lbs. He's about 16lbs and she's 23ish lbs
She'll be 2 in 2 months and we'll start being more diligent with potty training at that time. now we're more or less letting her sit on it and making a game out of it, she also goes in when I go to the bathroom and we cheer when I "make music" aka the pee hits the water!
She thinks it's great fun.
Jaime- thanks for the tip. I've talked with Steph several times and I'm planning on taking a picture of Bella's rash again and emailing it to her. (We cover her parts and just show the rash) And see if she has any other tips. I also emailed Karen at GMD to see what she thought too and I plan to email her again as well. Hopefully one or both of them along with the derm will have a suggestion to get us through this.
Hi Sarah,
Glad you got a good deal on the sposies. I hope they help B clear up her rash once and for all. Since you're introducing pottying to B, I recommend "Once Upon A Potty" book. Libby loves it! She'll "read" it when she sits on her little Bjorn potty. And LOL for size 3. Libby has been in size 3 for a long time too! At her last pedi appt. she lost weight and is now 23.5 lbs. I cannot believe my little chunkster is turning into a string bean! Too cute!
Good luck with the sposies...let me know how it goes for you!
Hugs,
Lori

*butting in*
I just want to share our experience in battling with rashes. Elle has had (mild) diarrhea (which i now think may be due to her teething. She just cut her 1st tooth yday!) for the past few weeks. She also has very sensitive skin and it will get all red when she's sitting on poop for just a minute. We've tried different creams but none seem to completely clear them out. One day it got really bad (raw skin)! I've been exchanging emails and showing photos to Steph and my sister who's a dermatologist. Long story short, it turned out to be thrush. My sister said normally, the skin should clear up a day or two if it's just regular rashes. If the skin does not seem to respond to the diaper cream, it can be due to something else. I took E to her pedi who then prescribed us with nystatin (for thrush) and muriprocin (anti-bacterial). We also stopped using CDs and used sposies while we're treating her. So everyday for the last couple of weeks, we'd apply nystatin and muriprocin 3x a day and then top with a really good barrier cream during each diaper change. We'd also have naked time. We'd have her nap naked which she loved lol. We bought chux pad so we'd put that underneath her in case she pees. She has never pooped while naked..thank goodness! lol. My sister said the challenge is to always keep the skin dry to give it time to heal. We skipped giving bath for a week since we want to avoid soaking her skin in the water. Everytime she poops, I would her wash butt under the sink with Aveeno wash and water. I'd just wipe the rest of her body with wet wash cloth every nigh. As for the diaper cream, we used Butt Paste. I LOVE it! It's so thick so it really does the job in putting a barrier between the skin and the poop/pee. It smells really good too. We used the original version but I saw they have another kind which supposedly has natural ingredients. I didn't try those though. I tried using Desitin but it stink and it makes me want to puke lol. As for sposies, we used the Kirkland brand. I love it. We haven't had any leaks (which we normally do when we use Pampers) especially overnight considering E is a heavy wetter. So now, I am happy to say that E's skin has completely healed. We told her DCP to make sure they change her often and make sure her skin is completely dry (very important!) before they put on a new diaper.
I hope B's rashes clear out soon and don't turn out to be thrush. I felt bad for E but good thing is, it did not seem to bother her (except for ONE time when she did not want to be touched). Goodluck mama!
One other (disposable) diaper suggestion - Not sure how "green" they really are, but I'm impressed with their lack of smell, if that makes sense... Doesn't smell too chemical or fragranced and J has never had a leak when we do use them.
The Kroger brand Touch of Nature. At my local kroger affiliate they are $7.50 for 31 and I regularly get register printed $1 and $2 off coupons. In Indiana they were only $6.50. They are also sold as the Full Circle brand at Haggens and Nurtured by Nature (for a lot more $$) on Amazon. They recently got a new more "green" looking packaging so I'm hoping they don't decide to move them to the natural foods section and raise the price, I hate spending money on disposables for when we do need them.
Our pedi also suspected yeast when it wouldn't fully clear up and we did two weeks of Nystatin and Muriprocin too. It helped heal the main rash she was dealing with but she still got red/bumpy when we were using the overnight CDs so that's when we switched to sposies at night. Since then, we've had NO issues!
