slivers in dd's hand

Is there some way to extract slivers that doesn't involve prying them out?  Poor Vivi somehow got a palm full of little slivers (there are 7ish of them).  I tried to use my nail to push at them gently but of course she had a total freak about it.

Uh.  Now what?

Re: slivers in dd's hand

  • I've done this before successfully - put some sticky tape on the area and then remove the tape.  The sliver may stick to the tape and come out.

The interwebs suggested putting a dab of white glue on the area, letting it dry, and then peeling off the glue glob - the theory being that the slivers will come out too.

  • Loading the player...
  • If the tape and glue tricks don't work, you can also coat the area with honey (for DD I put on a dab of honey then a band-aid on top) for a couple hours then use needle point tweezers. The honey moisturizes it or something and makes them come out easier and less painfully. I do it all the time for hair splinters on myself.
  • I've had luck w/ Elmer's glue, dried. That might not work for tiny, squeezy hands, though. :(

  • Put oragel to numb the area first, and then pick them out with tweezers or duct tape.
  • Thanks for the tips!  Tried tape, honey, glue.  I was able to scrape a few out using my fingernail after doing the honey. She's still got a couple, though.

I'm going to try that later!  Thanks.
