Babies on the Brain

do i wake her up?

I just went to check on Katie before going to bed. She is obviously poppy. But she is sleeping soundly. Do you wake a sleeping baby to change her or do I wait until she wakes up and changer her then? And if I wait will it ruin the Ferber training we've done? I don't remember reading anything about this in the book?

  • I always change Seth if he is poopy.  If I don't he will get a terrible diaper rash.  I can usually do it without waking him up, but sometimes he wakes up and I just have to lay him back down.  He is usually back to sleep in less than 5 minutes.

  • Change the diaper.  It *shouldn't* wake her to the point that she can't get back to sleep.  What baby wants to sit in poop, and what parent wants to deal with diaper rash afterward?

This.  The diaper rashes around these parts get hideous quickly, and no amount of awake time is worth that.

  • Yeah, I thought about it and decided that if I wouldn't want to sit in poop why would she?

So I changed her, she woke up a little but went back down relatively quickly.

And that was her only wake up for the night, so yea!
