got any tips for moving with a baby?

We are moving to our new house in a few weeks. Yay! We decided to use movers rather than try to find friends free on fathers day weekend. The movers won't dis/reassemble the crib for liability reasons. Dh is working , so I'm in charge of all the moving arrangements. I'm worried all the changes are going to totally throw W out of whack. He already had a night of panic when we lowered his matress a few days ago. I don't know where to put him if we take down his crib early. Also, the layout of his new room won't be the same. I hope he doesn't freak with the changes.

Our fence won't be finished when we move so I'll be walking 3 dogs a few times a day for a while too. How fun.

Got any overall tips on how to have a smooth relocation with a baby?

  • Pack n Play?  That's what we did with both kids when we moved

  • I was going to suggest pack n play as well.   Maybe put him in the pack n play in his room where his crib used to be.
  • When we moved C was 5 mo old and I was terrified of how he would sleep again!  The crib was the last thing we packed and the first thing we set back up.  I also had a friend watch him the whole day we were moving so i could concentrate on getting things put where I wanted them.  We got the house keys a couple days early and I moved a lot of things then.

  • We moved across the country with twin boys.....twice....within 6 months. It actually went a lot smoother than I thought it would. We just used pack and plays until we could get the cribs set up again. We had some family help to watch them and unpack, so that made it a little easier. They seemed to adjust pretty well to the new environment, maybe a couple nights of off sleeping, but I just tried to keep their routine the same and made sure they had their white noise, etc.

It's stressful to move, especially with a baby! Hope it goes well for you guys, good luck!

I agree with using a pack and play. We also didn't wash all of his sheets and blankets prior to the move to keep that familiar smell. Sounds odd, but I think it helped. We also kept the same furniture and toys in his room. I wore him on my back while supervising some moving stuff then when we were inside, used the excersaucer to keep him entertained so he wasn't crawling around boxes.

  • Thanks ladies. We have secured a pnp from a friend, and I'll make sure to have easy access to the ergo and play yard. I hope it's not awful, and all works out as planned.

Let me know if you want any help the following week/weekend with anything, I can watch the kids for a bit while you do stuff.  I also have a PnP if you need a second or the first one falls through.  I wouldn't worry too much, I'm sure he'll adapt fine.  He's so easygoing. :)

  • We just moved this weekend with a 2 1/2 year old and 6 week old and it was difficult, but doable.  We had my MIL watch the 2 1/2 year old, and the 6 week old spent a lot of time in the Moby.  I couldn't do a lot of packing/moving because I am still in full on nursing mode, and Wyatt will not last long being set down, but we are slowly unpacking now.  Just be prepared for things to take longer than you would expect and don't stress out about it.
