As my original post stated, I could care less about the complaining; hell I complain about being uncomfortable with everyone. This sucks. I simply wrote that because I am so over those that whine about not being dilated/effaced/delivered by 35 weeks. I was agreeing with another's confession.
And FYI: It can be just as dangerous to carry a baby past 41 weeks as it can to have one prior to 36 weeks, so being induced past 40 weeks is a totally different argument. Furthermore, there is a huge difference in brain development between a 36 week fetus and a 40 week fetus. That cannot be argued. Some newborns do better than others when born early; some thrive while others might not.
Yes I agree, nobody on here wants an unhealthy baby, duh. It just saddens me that in my career, I spend hours with families who would kill to carry their LO to full term (whether you consider that 37 or 38 or 40 weeks). Kill. I know the devastating and lasting medical effects prematurity can bring. It truly makes the discomfort of late 3rd tri seem less significant.
With that, I wish us all a long weekend full of pain-free, sleep-filled days and nights. With lots of chocolate and Twizzlers.
Actually a Harvard study in the 90's showed that the average pregnancy, without intervention, goes 41 weeks 1day. The 40 weeks was set in the 1850's (Got this info from a Bradley method book so no links). I am not disagreeing with you that people should lay off the "suck it up" comments....but this is what I have read, and I am sure if I keep looking I can find all kinds of conflicting info.
