NBR: Camera reqs? Digital SLR?

So, I absolutely need a new camera (had ours forever, and it's in bad shape - just a basic point and shoot.)

I'm looking at getting an entry level dslr camera.

Any suggestions for brand/model for someone just starting out with one? Thanks so much!

    I love our Canon Rebel T2i - its a great camera and has an automatic setting that is good to use while you're learning all the other settings.

    DH has a really old Canon Rebel DSLR and I *love* it.  It was the cheapest Canon DSLR many moons ago and it's great.  We would like to get a new eventually so that we had one that did video, but I really think you can't go wrong with Canon.  

    That said, I've never played with a Nikon and my MIL loves hers.  Unless you are a pro, I would chose either Canon or Nikon, get the cheapest DSLR model of whichever brand you prefer and then save up for a better lens.
