Did anyone go on meds for their m/s?

The doctor offered it to me again yesterday, but I said no.  I am sick all day long, but I am so close to the end of my first trimester and am hoping the m/s will go away soon.  But after throwing up again all morning, I am wondering if I should.  I didn't have this with my first, so this is all new to me.

So, if you did go on meds, did it help?  Was it immediate?

Thanks!

Re: Did anyone go on meds for their m/s?

  • Yes, I did with both. With #1 it was critical. I ended up in the hospital for 3 days b/c I got dehydrated. I understand what you mean about trying to stick it out though. But it might not be a bad idea to go ahead and get the meds, but only keep them for when you really need them. If you don't want to pay for a whole script that might be wasted, ask your pharmacy if you can get a partial fill instead of the full amount.
  • I was on zofran and it was a godsend. I should add that I was sick until 21 or 22 weeks.

With the meds, I still felt sick, but it was manageable and I didn't throw up.

  • I did.  For me it worked in the aspect that I didn't throw up as much, and I sitll felt queasy and sick.  It was alot more managable on the meds.

    I hope you feel better!

  • I did.  I was well into my 2nd trimester and was still getting horribly sick and losing a lot of weight, which concered my doctor.  It did help some, but I still got sick at least once or twice a day.  The bad thing was the meds made me so sleepy that I seriously could not function when I was on them, so I really could only take it after work.
  • I was in the hospital for dehydration at 8 weeks d/t throwing up all day & I had lost 10 lbs.  She gave me phenergan tablets & I only used them when absolutely necessary & they were awesome! I didn't use them every day, only on days that I threw up more than 2x.  I was sick until week 20 or so, then I couldn't stop eating...& still can't, lol!!

  • I was on the Unisom/B6 combo for the first 15 weeks or so. And I felt a difference the first morning after taking it.?
  • Yes!  I wasn't throwing up, but I was extremely nauseated and unable to take care of my son.  I went on Reglan (metoclopramide) and it was a lifesaver!  I had m/s until week 19 (and week 15 w/DC #1).
  • Yes, quick, fast and in a hurry too.  I was super sick with this baby starting very early on.  At my first appt. with my OB at 6 wks. I was put on Zofran.  BEST thing ever!  If I didn't take it prophylactically, I would be miserable and sick all day long.  Yes, it was immediate.  You really oughta consider it...you don't have to be so sick!
