I've been using Dr. Browns preemie size nipples since DS can come. He is 1 month adjusted and he still seems to have trouble with the size 1 nipples. When did your LO graduate from the preemie nipple?
Our NICU never gave the girls preemie nipples. They went straight to the NB nipples but we are at the point of switching to the next size up and it has been a nightmare. they both hate it. It has take just about 10 days... (160 feedings combined, not that I have counted) to finally get the hang of it. Good luck and just stick

Mason was just a slow eater. No real feeding problems and he stayed on the preemie nipple until almost 5 or 6 months. Just play it by ear. I would try the size 1 every week or so once he was 3 months until he seemed to be able to handle it. He is now a year and only on a size 2. The size 3 drowns him. He was born at 34 weeks.

We never used the preemie nipples. We used the newborn nipples until about 5 months old and then switched to size 2 nipples (we also use Dr. Browns). I would just go by what is best for your little one. If you feel he isn't ready then I wouldn't push it.

Thanks ladies. Sometimes I feel like he is frustrated with the slow flow of the preemie size, but he drowns in a size 1 nipple. I guess I'll keep trying the size 1 every so often until he gets the hang of it.
My doctor told me that when DD started collapsing the nipple it was time to move her up to the next one... She only just started collapsing the Medium flow nipples and we are about to wean her.
The grass is always greener... Sam wouldn't take full feeds with a slow flow so we were never allowed discharge until he got the hang of EBF. Now, he uses a medium flow and loves it, but takes in so much air so I have a super gassy baby. The grass is ALWAYS greener.
