Pregnant after a Loss

My first belly rub...not sure how I feel about it.

DH and I were out for dinner today and told some of our friends we're pregnant and the girl beside me was sooo excited and so happy for us and then reached over and patted my belly and said "Ohhhh there's a baby in there!!" Mind you we met for the first time at this dinner. I never really thought I would mind that much, I didnt get the hype about don't touch the bump.......But now I really feel like I do. ?I'm only 12 weeks and I'm SUPER bloated! Like nobody's business! I look more like I'm 5 months pregnant! I have no idea whats going on but in any case I just feel really fat so when she reached over and touched my FAT belly that is not baby at all right now it was like Hey! Whoa there! At the same time it was pretty exciting cause its the first public announcement we've made and it made it so real! I suppose 'm in for more as this bump gets bigger! Some exciting news DH and I finally thought of a girls name! SO we have Logan Michael if its a boy and drumroll.... Millie Elaine if its a girl, after my grandmother who was born Dec 7th and I'm due Dec 6th! :D I'm so excited!

i personally am not a big fan of the unasked belly rub. While 37 weeks pregnant with DD, we went to a wedding. Some VERY drunk lady kept on coming up to me and rubbing my belly and saying "ohhhh.... a baby in there!" This happened to me four times before I finally said to her "I am not rubbing your belly, please do not rub mine." Well, the lady went off on me. While driving home, DH said if I were to go into labor, he would blame it on voodoo hands (aka drunk belly rubbing lady). Well, 3:30 a.m., my water broke... thank you voodoo hands.

  • I had my first belly rub happen this last weekend too and even though my belly is finally starting to pop a little, it was still uncomfortable because it was from someone I hardly know.  I just tried to tell myself I have to get used to it...

  • I do not understand why people think this is ok. Seriously, WTF?  I have only touched a couple pregnant bellies in my life and they were friends who told me beforehand that I could. I cannot imagine reaching out and touching even a friend's belly without asking.

I wouldn't have said it but I would have wanted to say, "Well actually the baby is behind my pubic bone right now, so if you want to stick your hand right down next to my hoo-ha, then you would be a little more accurate."

  • Oh boy. I do not like the idea of people I don't know well touching me. I don't know if I'll be able to keep myself from patting their belly in return.
