Babies on the Brain

I need help.

I can't get LO to sleep out of our bed. DH or I will try to put him down in his crib as soon as he shows signs of tiredness (for naps) or after our routine for bedtime but he just screams and screams until DH lets me pick him up. The only place he sleeps is in my arms or in our bed with me next to him. I'm not comfortable with Ferber (right now) and I don't know anything about the No Cry Sleep Solution (has it worked for anyone?). I have to get him to sleep away from me before he starts daycare. What do I do?

Re: I need help.

  • I am sorry you are going through this, my DD was similar. Do you put him down awake? Or is he asleep after a bottle/nursing? Does he take a paci?

I ended up co-sleeping with a sidecar (her crib next to my bed) from 6mo on after trying for 6 months to get her to sleep by herself. I tried paci's/putting down asleep or awake or tired, rocking the crib, swaddling....anything anyone recommended and then finally each thing I tried only worked for a bit so we went to co-sleeping and I love it!

As far as daycare, I can't advise but I know that babies are adaptable so hopefully he will figure out how to sleep when he's not with you.

The AP board is really helpfully, you might want to XP this over there.

  • I wish I had some good advice for you, but we're in a similar situation. K will not go to sleep unless she is holding my hand. She will only sleep for a 1/2 hour at daycare (she goes 1/2 days), but she doesn't need to hold their hand to fall asleep. I wouldn't worry too much about daycare. The staff and your LO will figure out something that works for them to get him to sleep.

It's all about baby sleep associations-- I wish I knew some good (and easy!) ways to change these associations.

I read NCSS, and although it did have some good general info, it didn't work out for us. I would still recommend reading it, though. Maybe you'll have better luck. GL!
