Pregnant after a Loss

Question about change in EDD?

Today after my a/s when I went back to see the doctor he said that everything looked great etc,. but he also said that our little boy is measuring a good 3 days ahead putting me at 10/21 instead of 10/24, should I change it and stick with the new one or do these things fluctuate over the course of the 2nd and 3rd tri?  I should've asked the doctor but I was all caught up in the moment lol.

On a side note I have to say that made it extra special to both me and my mom because 10/21 is my big brother's b-day and he passed away  in an accident a few years ago.

Re: Question about change in EDD?

  • I wouldn't change the EDD. Our LO has been measuring ahead the whole time (almost a week ahead) and they told us to just keep the same EDD.

  • Did you have an early u/s? If so, I'd stick with that- early babies develop at the same rate and those ultrasounds are generally more accurate. Glad you got to see your baby!

  • If the new EDD is meaningful and feels positive to you, I'd go ahead and use it--so few babies come on their EDD that the 3 days shouldn't matter either way!

  • I would leave the EDD as it is unless the doc specifically says to change it.  Little Boy will come whenever he wants to anyways...

FWIW, our little guy has been jumping back and forth between 10/15 and 10/17 for what he's measuring (more towards the 10/17s it seems, which matches better with my O date).  My docs have been adamant that his EDD is still 10/15.  They say being a few days off in measurements isn't reason enough to change a due date.

My baby had been measuring three days ahead until my Level 2 when he was measuring exactly on time. For some reason this freaked me out (I thought he somehow lost three days) so I had a long talk with my doctor about it. He said that mid-second trimester ultrasounds can be off by 12 days. I thought that was nuts but he said it was true because of the movement and because variations with in ultrasound techs.

  • My LO measured a week or so ahead at the anatomy scan.  They didn't change my due date.  The peri explained it like this - when the baby is really little (such as at a dating u/s), their measurements with the 3" u/s wand are more accurate.  As the baby gets bigger, the accuracy of the measurements decreases.  It's like trying to measure a small earring with a 3" ruler versus measuring a wall with a 3" ruler.  You're going to be more accurate on the earring than the wall.

This. My doctor explained the same thing to me. No earrings though :)

  • I would keep it as the original EDD.  Kellen measured right on track at my 6w u/s, 3 days ahead at my 12w NT scan, 3 days ahead at my 18w AS, and then right on track at my 20w scan.  So your LO can fluctuate a lot.
