TTC after 35

Can you help me understand my numbers?

First of all Hi! I have been lurking here mostly to learn over the last couple of months while my DH and I try to become pregnant. I will be 40 in December and we have been trying since November to get pregnant with no luck. So now that I have really started on this journey of trying to figure out what might be happening I have a question I am hoping you may have incite into:) So my OBGYN had bloodwork done on day 3 and day 10 to test my FSH and Estradiol. She has now said that she will refer us to an RE because of my results. I am hoping someone with experience can help explain what you think is happening? From my Day 3 results I was worried. FSH was 5.6ml which normally would be great but my Estradiol was 204! So here is where I am confused. My day 10 Estradiol is now <50 and my FSH is 16.8ml. That seems like a huge drop in Estridol but scary high FSH.
Any thoughts on these numbers? TIA for your help!

  • I never had Cd10 b/w so I can't comment on that but you may have had a cyst on Cd3 that was producing estrogen. I'm assuming you didn't have an ultrasound done to look around then, right?   Your FSH is great but if the estrogen is a real number, it is artificially suppressing the FSH. But when I had a cyst on CD3, my estrogen was in the 200's.  It could be something simple like that.   I "think" FSH does get higher later in the cycle because your ovaries are trying to produce an egg.  Did you make an appt with an RE yet?

I have Kaiser and my obgyn just told me today because of the numbers she is sending over a referral. So hopefully in the next couple of weeks I can get in.

I had some noticeable pinching pain on my left side on CD 8 that I have never felt so strong before. There has been no spotting. So I am hoping it was just a cyst and my body is get ready to O.

    Thanks for you input!

  • I know that even if your FSH is under 10 on Day 3, if your estradiol levels are over 70 that they could be masking the FSH numbers. Usually they do a Clomid Challenge Test.  I wouldn't waste anytime and get all tests done for you and your husband (I just turned 40 so I know time is limited for those of us in our late 30's and early 40's) I don't know anything about the Day 10 numbers. Try not to worry about the numbers. They are just a guide for doctors but they really can't tell you if you will or won't be able to have a baby.

Good luck. I highly recommend The Infertility Cure by Randine Lewis. I do believe diet makes a difference with hormones.

Thanks for the advise! Yes, time is of the essence! I just hope I get into the RE before my next cycle.
