Cloth Diapering

converting microfiber insert to flip inserts?

I've picked up several microfiber inserts at a consignment shop around here but have more flip covers than pocket diapers. What kind of material should (could?) I use to add a layer to protect DS's skin that would be similar to the lined side of the flip inserts? Any good/better/best input? Or is this just a bad idea? Thanks for the help!

Re: converting microfiber insert to flip inserts?

  • I bought some insert "socks" from cotton babies that do just that. They were like $3 each, but I think you can get them cheaper if you look around. They're suedecloth, btw.

  • JoAnne's sells a fabric called Alova that is very similar to the suedecloth found on Flips.  I found it in my local Joanne in with the costume suede fabrics.  You could cut it into rectangle and lay it on top of the inserts.  It doesn't fray when cut (in my experience).

  • Honestly, I would just get some fleece. Cut it to the same size as the Flip inserts and zig zag around the edge. The fleece will wick away moisture from his skin while protecting him from the microfiber. I find fleece to be easy to clean. Plus, the edges will hold up well since fleece doesn't shred or anything. It would be super easy.

But really you could use just about anything. Fleece is cheap, easy to find, and wicks moisture which is why that's what I'd use.

  • Thanks so much for the responses! I think I may cut up an old fleece blanket to try out and go from there.
