Just curious. I tried prefolds and hated them, but I also didn't start CDing until DS was 9 months old. Why are GMD preferred? Fit? Absorbancy? I'm thinking of picking up a stack of prefolds for the nb stage and not sure which brand to go with.

Re: What makes GMD prefolds better?
Check out this Bumpie Business List .
to answer your question, a lot of people like GMD bc the way their prefolds are sized...so they fit a narrower weight range per size and are therefore less bulky.
i started cding ds when he was 6 months and we've used prefolds on him from the time we started... and are still using them. i love them, and they're super cheap compared to most cd's. i've only used cottonbabies and love them. i've got their normal indian prefolds and their 2nds and love them both.
i've ordered infant sized from cottonbabies for #2. they're just about the same size as the yellow edge GMD, though i think the GMD are slightly wider.
The GMDs are sized to fit properly in standard covers, without having to fold down the rise at all, like you do with other kinds of prefolds. This picture shows the differences in sizes (scroll to the right to see the full width of the larger sizes):
I started off with DS in standard infant prefolds -- the green edge ones in the picture above. But for the first ~3 months, I had to fold down the rise so that it fit him properly, and so that I could get the entire prefold into his cover. The orange edge GMD prefolds would have made that unnecessary.
That's why a lot of people prefer GMDs, although personally, I didn't mind doing the fold-down.
