Graduations?

Why are there so many graduations now?  I have seen so many pictures from kid's graduations on FB. Pre-school, kindergarten, 5th grade, 8th grade, high school, and college.

I can see doing the kindergarten for the cute factor. The rest seem pointless until high school and college.

Re: Graduations?

  • I agree.  I graduated from pre-k, and not again until the end of high school.

  • I like preschool over kindergarten because it's them transitioning into elementary school.  I agree that the rest are pointless.  The sad thing is that 8th grade graduation was a HUGE deal at the first middle school I taught at because a lot of those kids wouldn't make it through to have a HS one.

  • I known lot of catholic schools do an eighth grade graduation because the kids have been there for 8 years together. I don't really understand it when you go an elementary school for a few years and then a middle school for a few years. Mrbunny had a fifth grade "graduation" and then an eighth grade one. I missed eighth grade graduation because I happened to move the summer before and went to a high school that was 8-12.

  • Our schools around here are pre-k (usually through a church or day care) then K-5, 6-8, and 9-12.

I know this is sarcasm, but it brings me to another thought.

If the graduation(s) is to help boost the child's ego to finish a grade, then what is the point in report cards and homework?  Shouldn't they be patted on the back throughout the school years for doing great work to begin with.  I am  not talking about given gifts or allowance. I am saying they should be told how they are doing a great job and given guidance  when they are struggling. It is a parent's job to do this.
