Two Under 2

I know double strollers are a hot topic on this board...

but, my daughter will be 19 months when my second baby is born. I am looking at double strollers and having a hard time. I was thinking about getting a sit n stand type stroller, but I heard the actual sit n stand can be tough to push and maneuver when the kids get heavier... Then I was looking at getting a 2 seater (she'll be pretty little still anyway) but those look heavy and bulky.  I was also looking at the Joovy Caboose strollers because I've seen on other posts that parents love them, but my concern was whether or not my daughter (at 19 months - 2 years) would even want to sit on it or if she would want to constantly jump off... this is tougher than I thought.  Any suggestions? Any input or awesome strollers you love?  I don't really want to spend a fortune on one and I don't want a side by side cause I think they're too wide...

I have #2 on the way next month and DS will be 19.5 months.  I bought the Joovy Caboose Ultralight and only this morning while reading the manual did I realize the back seat is for kids 2 and a half or older.  UGH.  HOWEVER.  DH put DS in the back seat (it has a stand optino but also a sit down one) and strapped him in and he LOVED it..... so I think we're going to try it out anyway and just be mindful of how he's doing in it.  I like that it's so compact for a double, and it works w/ an infant seat and without and we should be able to use it for uqite a while.  Not the best advice as I'm going against what the book says about age for the rear seat, but my son is pretty good about that stuff so I'm just going to give it a try and see how it goes.  Good luck to you!

  • My kids will be 19 months apart and I knew DS would be too young for a sit and stand right now. On down the line I may look at them but not right now. My best advice is to try a lot of them out! I borrowed and checked out my friend's double strollers and test drove a ton in the store. I finally decided on the City Mini Double (side by side.) I didn't think I would ever want a side by side but I found they were much easier to navigate and steer and I didn't find the "nicer" ones too wide at all. I would just do a ton of research and test out a ton to find one that works for you. Like I said, when they get to be a little older we may look at others but we're going with this one right now, I think it will work best for us.
  • My two will be 19 months apart as well and there's no way DD is ready to sit in the back part of a sit & stand, and she's a pretty calm child (well, sometimes). At that age you'll probably still need a full on two seater. I got an awesome deal on the BJ city select so that's what I went with as my indoor double. I love the flexibilty it has and I'm not a fan of side by sides for indoors. I've had the stroller for about six months and I'm happy with it, although I haven't used it in doubles mode just yet.

At over 2, my DS would still not be ready for a sit and stand.  We got the Bumbleride Indie Twin (side by side), even though I didn't think I liked those either.  When we were looking, though, the only tandem options were the graco, phil and ted, or city select...and the city select was so new that it wasn't around to test out anywhere.

We went to test a bunch of options out, and decided that we liked the Bumbleride the best (tried out a phil and teds, BOB, city mini, valco, and bumbleride).  We mostly use it for walks outside, but we do take it when we walk to the Starbucks, grocery store, and pharmacy in our town.  We haven't had a problem with its bulkiness!  Good luck!

  • I like the City select because you have the option of making it s double or single stroller. Sometimes DD wants to walk so I just pop the carseat with DS in the stroller or other times I only have one of the kids with me and dont want to me walking around with a double stroller. Its a great stroller and I recommend it to everyone I can!
  • Thank you for the responses so far! Its been very helpful.  Maybe I'll have to try out a bunch before choosing... seems like the better option.

  • I have a City Select and a Phil and Ted Explorer.  You can read in a post a bit down about why I don't like the CS and am selling it.  I really like our P&T.  It doesn't take up any more room than a larger single, and I can take it anywhere.

I know you said you don't want a side by side, but I agree with the poster above. My children are 15.5 months apart and we really love our BJCMD (as do our friends who also have it).
