#1 Do I really need a nightstand? I'm assuming this will be my "mom" area while feeding, but I'm kinda tight on space
#2 We just installed overhead fan/light combo. It has a dimmer, so do I need to get a cute small lamp for the nightstand?
#3 Is it unsafe to install a shelf over the changing table? I'm worried it might fall while I'm "working"
#4 I was going to forego a diaper genie thing and just use a normal trash can. The only spot for this is near the rocking chair and I hate to be sitting there and it stinks. Could I forego this and put the diapers in the kitchen garbage? (its a small house)
Re: some nursery questions
Better to be comfy than cramped!
I have a glider, nightstand, and lamp for the nightstand but we have a big room for LO. I say, if you don't have a lot of room then put your glider/chair next to the dresser so you still have a table of some sort to put things on if need be. If your light dims then perfect! No real need for the lamp
I dont know what to tell you about the shelf over the changing table because I worry about that too so I chose not to. lol
& We have a diaper genie but I've heard amazing tips from 2nd time moms of using a regular small trashcan and putting odorizing clips in it (its cheaper and more convenient!).
We had a night stand but didnt have a changing table. I don't think a nightstand is necessary and a lamp isn't really needed either. We barely used the lamp until DD was older.
As for the diaper genie i have one and have never used it! we always just brought the diapers downstairs and put them in the trashcan in the kitchen and never had a problem with it. The trash from the kitchen typically goes out each day sometimes more.
You don't need a nightstand, but try to arrange the room so you will have somewhere to put bottles and other things while you are rocking LO, like maybe on a bookshelf.
I would say you don't need a lamp if your light has a dimmer. I wish the ceiling fan in LO's room had one.
I don't think a shelf will fall unless it is not installed correctly.
You can put diapers in the kitchen, but just be aware that they will smell. You may need to empty it more often. Could you put a diaper genie next to the trash can in the kitchen just to cut down on the odor?
I wouldn't say it's necessary, but I prefer having a night stand in DD's room. We have her end of the monitor on it, as well as a clock, small lamp and the book we read before bed every night. It's also nice to have someplace to set the bottle when feeding in the rocking chair.
If you have a dimmer you probably don't need a lamp. You can add one later if you change your mind.
A shelf over the changing table should be safe if it is installed properly and securely. Make sure it's screwed into the studs, not just the drywall/plaster, and don't put anything super heavy on it.
We never got a diaper genie or the like. We have a small garbage can between the rocking chair and dresser/changing table. It's small enough that it gets emptied often and doesn't stink as long as I stay on top of lysoling it after it gets emptied. You could try just taking the diapers to the kitchen and if it doesn't work pick up a small garbage can.
