Cloth Diapering

Diapers not as soft

I have an HE front loader, which I know is not ideal for diapers, but does anyone have any ideas why my diapers don't feel as soft any more?  Or any suggestions on how to fix it (or at least not make it worse)?

I haven't found a wash cycle that I'm super happy about yet, but recently I've been running a quick wash with cold water (with extra water + no detergent) then a long wash with extra water, detergent, and an extra rinse.

I have mostly prefolds, but I really noticed it on my newborn fuzzibuns, so I'd like to fix the problem before I buy any new larger fitted or AIO's.

Thanks for any suggestions!

Re: Diapers not as soft

  • Some diapers naturally get a little crunchy with use.  Ecover is a fabric softener that is CD safe but not PUL safe (soo no fuzzibun pockets).

  • Thanks!

I actually meant to write that I find the problem on my Kissiluv newborn fitteds.  I haven't used my Fuzzibuns yet. But I'll look into that fabric softener for my GMD's.

  • I have 2 Swaddlebees are crunchy. All the rest have been fine (BG, HH, FB & Bummis prefolds). I still can't figure out why it's just those.
  • Kissaluvs get pretty crunchy with use!  I haven't tried the Ecover, but many on the board swear by it for their natural fiber dipes.

  • I LOVE Ecover.  It would certainly soften up KLOs!
