Food Allergy

If you reintroduced dairy into your body...

So 28mo old DD who is allergic to milk and eggs just weaned Crying I've gone without milk/eggs for over two years so now that I can eat dairy again I'm not sure where to start. I'm afraid of getting sick to my stomach but I need some chocolate or something to deal with the hormonal aftermath of weaning :-). I'm going to have some nacho cheese Doritos at lunch and am planning a celebratory pizza dinner with DH friday. I've always been o.k. with cheese but wouldn't feel good if I had straight cows milk. Other than taking some lactaid, does anyone have any tips? I really don't want to add writhing around in the bathroom all night to my agenda.

  • congrats! 28m -that is long! especially with restrictions.

Just take it easy. have a little here and there.

  • I only did it for 7 months, but I remember getting pizza for dinner the first night I had it.  I got light cheese on it.  So, no advice, haha.  I jumped in head first!

I'd start off with yogurt and old, hard cheeses (like parmesan). These things tend to bother people with dairy intolerances and lactose intolerance less than other forms of dairy. Try a serving or less one time a day or every other day and work more into your diet from there. I definitely wouldn't start out with pizza, a bowl of cereal, or creamy sauces or soups. That's just asking for trouble.

Good luck! I hope it's easy and painless :)

Right? I was totally overwhelmed by the choices at the deli today which is the first day of no restrictions. I tried some provolone on my sandwich to see if it made it exponentially better. It didn't. In fact it was cold and slimy and I took it off. If pizza doesn't taste good when I try it I'll have a fit :-)
