stupid question re: moby

i forgot to ask the doc at this morning's appointment about this... the moby instructions say to use at 8lbs+ and to consult your medical professional under 8lbs...

Jackson weighed 7lbs1oz this morning (over 1lb up from his check when we got out of the hospital! yay!!) so.... would you use the moby -- i can't think of a reason not to go ahead and use it (as long as we're good to go on the safety check and he can breathe comfortably and all that)? should i email the pedi's office to ask? wait to use it?  is there something i'm not thinking of it?

  • Hmm...  They must have changed the recommendations.  It seems like mine said you could even use it with a premie.  I know we used it before Kate was 8 pounds.

  • Call your doctor if it makes you more comfortable, but we used our Moby when M was only 4lbs 15oz at the doctors recommendation for kangaroo care.

We used the Moby with Molly and she was 6lbs 10oz.  I think it would be fine to do the Newborn Hug Hold.

This.  We used ours a week after she was born, and she was about 6lbs then.

I know this post is kinda far down the page, but I just wanted to echo PP's and add that you should avoid the cradle carry.  It's difficult to get LO positioned safely where her chin doesn't get tucked towards her chest, constricting her airway.  The new Moby instructions no longer list it as an option, but older ones did.
