I haven't had one so I could be totally off on this, but I thought that insurance didn't cover it at all. I thought you had to pay OOP for an elective u/s.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
Insurance will only cover "medically necessary" u/s.
I don't have one and so I am not sure how they work, but depending on your provider they may allow you to use your FSA account to pay for some (or maybe even all) of an elective u/s. Just something maybe worth looking into.

BFP #1 in 2001 ? natural m/c @ 9w4d
? TTC our first since 2009 ?

Clomid cycle #1 @ 50mg = BFP #3 on 1/1/11 ~ EDD 9/14/2011!!!
I had one and honestly didn't even look into insurance or FSA funds. I just assumed we were completely on our own for it?
Started TTC in 2/09. Dx with PCOS in 09/09. BFP on 11/7/09.
Dx with Ectopic on 12/7/09. Laparoscopy, D&C, and lost my left tube on 12/08/09.
01/11 = BFP! Finnegan Alexander born 9/25/11 via emergency c-section
I had one with my last pregnancy and they aren't covered at all. It's elective, so it doesn't go toward your deductible either. I doubt it would be covered under an FSA but that may be worth asking about.
6/28/10: Lost our sweet baby Addyston at 18wk 1day to pPROM
7/24/11: Michael William born at 24wk 2d due to IC after an emergent cerclage at 18wks, 4wk home BR and 2 weeks hospital BR. Grow strong our little Miracle!
9/17/11: Michael joined his sister in heaven after 8 amazing weeks with us on earth. He fought a very hard fight but NEC was too much for him in the end.
Ditto what PPs said about the medically necessary limitation. However, health savings account funds might be fine to use, as a lot of the expenses permissible under those plans are not really "medically necessary" like Lasik, etc. Worth looking into!

Motherhood is not for wimps
if it's elective, then insurance wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole.
It's 100% OOP.
