We will be ready to TTC again in September of this year, and I would like to decide which provider route to take (OB vs midwife) before we start. I would like to find out VBAC rates for the providers in our area, and find out if there are any providers that aren't as VBAC-friendly as they claim. I figured my local ICAN chapter would be a good place to get that info, and maybe get some support for the emotional issues that pop up relating to my c-section.
Well, I have been trying to get the meeting schedule for two months. The head of the local chapter does not get back to me. She has sent me a few messages saying she will get the schedule of meetings to me, but then weeks go by and I end up contacting her again. I'm not getting anywhere with her, and I feel like I'm harrassing her by trying to get a simple schedule.
So where else can I get this information? Is there a website or anything with VBAC stats? I'm in Canada, and I just don't know what other resources are available for checking into provider success rates.
Re: Resources other than ICAN?
I have been trying to find another resource too. The hospital I would like to use is small, so their vbac number is N/A since there weren't that many births (I hope that is the case).
I am not sure of this, but I believe you can get information from individual dr./mw about their types of births.
I don't have a local ICAN group. I found my doctor by looking online (local Yahoo group for moms, and Mothering.com's Find Your Tribe board) and talking to local people who are into childbirth (doulas, childbirth educators and LLL leaders are good people to talk to). I kept hearing good things about this one doctor so I contacted him and set up a time to talk to him. I really liked what he had to say so I went with him for prenatal care and I ended up having a great VBAC.
Good luck!
