And yet another virus exposure

So today I was told I am not immune to fifth's disease and to "stay away from contact with children." Umm... a little difficult as a teacher, but I wasn't too worried since I teach 6-8 and the students that had fifth's disease were in first grade (it's a K-8 school).

Upon telling my administration this, I was then told that there are a few students with hand, foot, and mouth disease. Really?! This is a little more unnerving since they are fifth graders (their classrooms are closer to mine) and we share many similar spaces.

At this point, I feel like I should just walk around with a mask and rubber gloves on while at work. Ugh!

Anybody have any info on this virus, other than what I've already google'd?

Good Lord, your school is a petri dish. So sorry you are dealing with this extra stress. It'd be nice if administration let you (and any other pregnant or immunocompromised staff) know about this stuff!

I don't have any experience but UGH for little kids and all their germs!!  It's definitely scary when you're pregnant because you feel so vulnerable as it is!  Stay well!

Geez!  And it's not like you can lysol your room, you don't need to inhale those fumes.  I am so sorry that you are in a battlezone!

Not for four more weeks! Plus, with the end of the school year coming up, there will be a lot of all-school activities and assemblies.

Looks like I'll be buying a jumbo size hand sanitizer today.

Hand, foot and mouth isn't a big deal for most of pregnancy- if it's very close to your due date, there is a chance the baby could be born with it, but in the scheme of things, not the hugest deal.  There is some minor evidence it can cause miscarriage in very rare cases, but parents with older children who get it aren't advised to stay away from their kids if they are pregnant- just to wear gloves while changing their diapers.
