I decided to try this out b/c of all the good things I have heard about it, my question...How do you register for stuff from other places (Target, BRU, BBB) to make it a universal registry?
Look on Amazon for a place to add the universal wishlist button. It will walk you through install directions and you'll end up with an "Add to Wish List" button up near where the button is for your favorites.
Technically you want to download the "Add to Registry" button to the favorites bar on the browser, a wishlist is a little different. When you find a product you like elsewhere, simply click on the add to registry button and then modify the description as needed.
You can find the link and instructions on the main amazon baby registry page, towards the bottom of the page, it says universal registry, get the add to registry button.
Have others had success with this? I considered it, because I thought I could find a lot of the same things from BRU or BBB and allow my guests to price shop on Amazon and get the best deal... but I only know one friend who used it and she only got like one or two gifts from the registry- most people went to BBB to use her other registry in person. Sounds like such a good plan but, for her anyway, it wound up being a waste of time. Interested to her success stories....
Can't say I've had a success story yet, but I've done almost all of my registering on Amazon - it's so darn easy! I've also done Target for the fam/non-computer users, but I anticipate almost all of my friends will use Amazon... it's just a part of our daily lives and how we shop.
When we got married three years ago, we did an online honeymoon registry - we're older and didn't need a single household thing - and I'd say 90 percent of people got us gifts that way. It was awesome!
I actually created a registry on Amazon yesterday! Not sure if others will use it, but it will be nice for me. I can buy off of it if no one else does. The reason I decided to do it was because I am doing a Dr. Seuss themed nursery. It is hard to find items that I want/need. I hope some of the items will be bought by family, but again..I'll buy them if I have to. I will also do Babies R Us and maybe walmart or target for family/friends who want to go in to shop.

Thanks ladies! I am planning on doing a target registry as weel, but have a lot of OOT friends/relatives that would use the Amazon registry and am having a hard time finding a lot of the stuff at Target, stuff is either online only or is at one store but not another...
