Pregnant after a Loss

Braxton Hicks question

When you get Braxton Hicks contractions do you usually get a couple or just one here and one there?  My stomach keeps tightening every few minutes (not timing them), they don't hurt.  A big question I have for my doc tomorrow is how do I tell the difference between my stomach being hard from LOs position, or a BH, or a real contraction.  I am assuming real contractions hurt?!

Re: Braxton Hicks question

  • I think I have been having them for the past or week or two.  They seem to start at the bottom of my belly and then the rest of my bump feels kind of tight.  I have been trying to track how often I get them and it seems like 2-3 per hour during the day.  Mine don't hurt either and they don't seem to be increasing in strength or frequency.  I have appts with both my MFM and OB tomorrow so I'm hoping to get some answers too.  Good luck at your appt!

  • I was just wondering this as I feel like the last couple of days they have increased. Dr told me that if it tight all over it is a BHbut if is one one side or only part of my bump it is the baby. For me I think that I get BH and I can tell they are coming because I get a little breathless like someone is squeezing me in the belly and starts up high. I also have been feeling a little twinge down by my lady bits during them and I am wondering if that is an actual contraction that isn't consistent yet.

  • I have a hard time deciding if they are BH or like you said just LO's position. Sometimes my stomach gets really tight in certain places, and feels hard like a head or butt is sticking out. It only happens a few times a day though.

  • I didn't know I was contracting half the time. But when I nOticed it felt like tightening would go from my sides forward like a zipper. Weird. If you have more than 5 an hr call. You'll know real labor. Believe me

  • I was getting them a lot more earlier on than I do now, but there is a definite different feeling between baby position, BH and a real contraction. I think froggy described it well - when I get a BH, my entire abdomen is tight and I get a little breathless and it lasts for a few seconds then releases. I get them a lot after standing up, peeing, or turning over. Baby can also take my breathe away, however it's concentrated. It may take up half my stomach, but I can tell the difference because there are softer areas. I find that baby is REALLY hard, whereas BH are def. stiff, but with a tiny but of give. Real contractions, well, eek. You'll know them when they come. Smile
