Poll- Sitting around

I might be a tad salty ~ Considering a mom friend said to me today, 'I would love to just sit at home all day' ~ now she really didn't mean this in a bad way .... per se. Just VERY bad wording.

However- Today- did you actually get to 'sit' (down and catch your breath... more or less- uninterrupted) and if so for how long?

  • I actually got to take a nap with the kids today for maybe about an hour... but that hasn't happened in a long time.  My three year old rarely naps at all and I think her brother is going to follow suit very soon.

  • For an hour and a half this afternoon I got to sit and read my book... it was heaven.  I pretty much get to do that everyday...  Schedules make for happy mommies!!  I dread the day that naptime disappears!!

  • I have to admit that I have been sitting around a lot more now that I am pregnant.  This fatigue is killing me.  However, most of the time my rest is not uninterrupted.  I did get 30 min. of uninterrupted t.v. time today during DD's nap.

  • I actually spent most of DS's 3 hour nap sitting around with the girls.  But, we cleaned and all of that before lunch.
  • Unless you count sitting in the car driving somewhere, then no.  I rarely get "uninterrupted" sitting time during the day.  Even when I am in the bathroom.

  • DD gets TV time when DS naps.  He naps for about 1 hour most days.  I usually do about 10-15 minutes of "lessons" with DD and then she watches TV until DS wakes.  Some days, he doesn't nap at all and some days he naps longer.  I don't really care which he does, I just wish I knew what it would be so we didn't waste time coming home for a nap that never happens.

I pretty much run a high quality daycare for two kids.  We do all sorts of things, but some of what I do is let them play alone or with each other for long periods because I think it is good for them.  I don't have the hardest life, that is not my goal.  I am working more toward the best life.  Sitting around all day is not really something that I think would contribute to that :-)

  • I'm getting about 5min right now. Today was DS' last day of pre-school so there was running around during his school time and then a picnic afterwards. Once home, we played in the yard, then made dinner, cleaned up and am now sitting down.

  • Yes. During naps, when DH is grilling dinner, on rainy days we just watch movies with popcorn.  Staying home isn't that much work on most days.

I totally get how that can be rude. Even though I don't have much to do, I do get defensive when somebody says that to me.

Today, I sat and ate breakfast for an hour.  Took DS#1 to school, then went home so DS#2 could take his nap. That was for 2.5 hours, so I chilled out then.  Pick DS#1 up from school came home, did snacks, played outside, and am now waiting for DH to come home and grill.  So I "sat around" for about 4 hours today. ; )

  • Today I have, and most days I do.

This morning we went to the gym so I had 45 minutes to myself on the treadmill, then got home and made lunch for both of us, then DD took a 1 hour 45 minute nap, I watched Real Housewives and looked online for new patio furniture.  Then we went to the park and played for about 30 minutes, and picked up BIL, and now he's here mowing the front and back yards, and DD is in the window watching him, and I've had about 10 minutes to sit down and check facebook, the nest, etc.

  • I am learning that my goal in life may be to sit and be with my thoughts, so for at least a year now, sitting and doing nothing is a high priority.

Today I sat from 8-9 with coffee, a book, and the internet before DD woke up.

I sat with DH and DD and enjoyed a great lunch for 30 minutes.

I sat for 45 minutes while DD was in her crib for rest time.

I sat and read for 25 minutes while DD watched Olivia.

I also love driving time and had about 80 minutes of that today - with DD, but very relaxing nonetheless.

In between, we did story time at the library, the grocery store, a walk/jog with the stroller, and a play session with a kid.

I'm really careful to counteract productivity (whatever that really is) with sitting.  I heart sitting alone...or with my family if they are being cooperative ;)

  • Yes, I did. DD took a 3 hour nap today. I spent the first hour of her nap doing laundry and cleaning, but the last two hours were spent snuggling with the dog and reading.

  • I laid in bed for an hour while the baby napped and I read to DS at the same time. I watched Maury in the background as well. lol.

  • Yup! I got 4 hours to myself today. I did have to pay a babysitter to get this time, but it was nice to relax!

  • I am a SAHM to a 1 month old, so I spend a good part of my day sitting around. However it is spent nursing or holding a sleeping baby who doesn't like to be put down much. Thank goodness for the IPad or I would be super bored.

I "sat down" while DD cried in her bed & refused to nap.  Not very relaxing.  Tongue Tied

Bring your friend to me & I'll smack her around.

Both kids nap together, so I always get at least 2.5 hours of alone time. I spend most of this sitting around. Today, I watched some shows that I had recorded and surfed the internet. I was about to start a new book when my son woke up. I make it a priority to have some down time to my days. I know when my kids stop napping, this will be more difficult, but this is my life (and I enjoy it) for now.

This is pretty much me.  Some days I am productive and some days I just relax

  • So jealous of the nappers.  I SOOOOO hoped DS would nap until at least 3, but he gave it up months ago.  Basically, the only time I "sit around" is when DS first gets up and watches the Letter Factory and I have 30 minutes to check email, drink coffee, whatever....unless DD is up already.  Other than that, no.  I try to get up before him in the morning, but he ALWAYS wakes up within 15 minutes of me getting up.  *sigh*  What in the world did I do with my time when I had 1 kid who took 2 regular naps until 17 months????  Oh, I sat around.  LOL.  It was good while it lasted.

  • I did today while Ari napped. He's been a sh!tty sleeper lately & not napping most days, which kills most of my sitting around and/or yoga and/or cleaning time. And when he's not napping he's more clingy & unable to play independently. I should've cleaned or something since I'm behind, but I sat on my a$$ instead.

  • I sit around quite a bit.  I read books, magazines, watch Days of our Lives every day - haven't missed an episode in two years! - play Mario....

Seriously.  I play with my kids, meet up with friends, keep the house clean and I still have more time than I do what to do with.

Don't hate. I have a great napper (around 3 hours every afternoon). I sometimes use that time to do home improvement stuff, cleaning, or other things that are easier without a cute, little helper :). I usually spend at least part of the time online or reading.

  • Yes, I did, but the kids were at preschool all morning and DH is on vacation this week, which I always try to make my vacation, too, insofar as I can.
  • I didn't,  During the 30 minutes both kids were asleep simultaneously, I was working.  I'm sure there will be more sit and around time later when I can get the kids on a similar schedule but Olivia's 3 1/2 months and although it's moving closer to a schedule, we're a long ways off.

  • We had an outing with my moms group this morning and I got home a little later than normal...which means Ben went down for his nap later than normal which = less me time.  That being said, I did get to sit down on the computer from 2:00-3:15pm.  After that, I was doing stuff around the house, ran an errand and then took Ben outside to play until my friend got here (she took me out to dinner).  So, I also had 90 minutes of sit down and girl chit-chat in the restaurant with my friend.

Uninterrupted?? NOPE! Both kids slept late today so I slept in also. I cleaned some this morning then we were out most of the afternoon running errands. DS only naps about 2 days/week now and I knew that since they slept late neither of them would nap today. Instead we ran errands to avoid the battle. We also went to Chick-fil-a with DH's new coworker and his family. It was nice to talk to other adults while the kids played but it was not quiet uninterrupted time by any means. The kids are in bed now and DH and I are sitting watching TV.

Most days DD naps and I make DS rest for 45 minutes. I clean or something for 15 minutes or so then rest, read, play online, etc for 30 minutes.

  • Yesterday was actually a good day for this, lol. Our babysitter was here for two hours to play with the kids and then I was able to get them to take a nap at the same time, which doesn't always happen. So I did end up having a lot of time to myself yesterday. Not every day is like this though.

  • I sit and have a coffee, read the paper and my email for an hour every morning. Such a nice way to start the day.

I also try to read a novel for at least half an hour every day.

  • I sit down, uninterrupted, alone, for about 2-3 hours in the daytime. Sometimes I get an hour in the morning while they are both still sleeping, and I make sure they nap at the same time in the afternoon, so I get another 1.5-2 hours then.

I/We do cleaning/laundry/etc while DH is home in the evenings or on weekends.

I do.  Every day.  I find that the days I don't get at least 30 minutes of "me" time, whether it's sitting and zoning out or hopping on the computer, I am very frazzled and at the end of my rope come dinner time.  I believe a happy Mommy is a rested Mommy.  Even if that rest is only sitting down for 30 minutes before tackling the dishes.

  • Yes. DD slept until 11:30 this morning (recovering from travel) so I had a few hours to myself. And she napped for 2 hours. I spent maybe half of that time just sitting in front of the computer in one capacity or another.
