My co-worker is moving there in a month, and she needs to get new shoes. She went last weekend and ended up tearing her feet up in flats and then wearing her workout shoes all weekend. Any recommendations for shoe brands/styles that are good for New Yorkers who walk a ton, but still stylish?

I think a lot of people who work in big cities may wear comfortable walking shoes while commuting and then change into dressy shoes at work or right before. She can either keep her nice shoes in the office or carry them in her bag. My friend that lives/works in a big city carries a tote bag on the train with the extra stuff a person might keep in the car. She honestly just wears "sensible" shoes since her job doesn't require heels.
I would think that any brand of comfort shoes would work. I like Dansko, Clarks, and Aerosoles. For dressier shoes, a friend swears by the Cole Haan Air line. She likes this flat:

I think it just depends on the flats. Some times I can walkaround the city all day (in my crappy H&M $10 ballet flats or my Me Too flats from Nordstrom) and sometimes I can barely get down the block without a blister (evil Steve Madden flats from Nordstrom Rack).
Tell her to keep pre-cut strips of moleskin in her bag in case shoes rub the wrong way. It's been a lifesaver.

This is what I did when I "lived" there for a couple of months and what most of my girlfriends who work in get-dressed-fancy-everyday jobs do.
