Pregnant after a Loss

Almost 18 weeks and still not completely "out" at work

I know I'm being irrational and I look so pregnant that I've had two people ASK me if I was preggers but I'm still scared something will go wrong (after 2 m/c, one at 16 weeks). I'd love to wait until my u/s in a few weeks, but I think I might start having to say something after next week's regular check-up/doppler check--people are definitely looking at me funny. I felt some almost definite kicks a few times a week or so ago, but haven't felt anything that was definitely baby for a few days now, which is freaking me out (naturally)...

  • I didn't come out at work till 20 when I went out on disability. Its really none of their business anyway. Do it when you are ready. Its also still really early for you to be feeling regular movement so try not to worry.

  • Tell when you are comfortable. I'm nearing 20 weeks and I still haven't really told either. I think a lot of ladies here feel the same way. When is your next appt? GL with telling WHEN you are ready.

  • I totally understand how your feel and don't think you're being irrational at all.  I finally told after my a/s at 18.5 weeks; I've been the queen of sweater coats to hide my growth. Some did have their suspicions and tried to ask some "polite" questions.  Until you feel ready, you have no obligation to tell them.

I hope you have a good check up soon and that everything is just fine with your LO!

This.  I am 20 weeks on Friday and have "come out" to 5 people at work for various reasons of necessity and convenience...but have yet to have anyone else ask what's going on despite a fairly obvious change in appearance in comparison to my non-pregnant state.  And I'm not planning on making an "announcement" so if people ask, I'll tell 'em, but otherwise...I am still not "ready" and for the moment I'd prefer them to think I have fallen hard off the Weight Watchers wagon.

  • It's no one's business but yours. We haven't told a sole and don't plan to until after the scan at 18 wks. Our family lives OOT so it makes that part easier.

My rule of thumb is if someone point blank asks me I will tell them the truth, otherwise I say nothing.

  • Ditto the other ladies and tell when YOU are comfortable.  It was probably around 20 weeks before I was out entirely at work and that was just fine by me.

I never had someone point blank ask me, but if I did, I wouldn't have felt like I needed to tell the truth.  It is no one's business but your own.  You can always say, "when I have something to share, I'll be sure to tell you" and hopefully they'll get the hint.

bumping from my phone. please pardon any typos and missing punctuation
  • I say don't let other people make the decision of when to tell for you.  It's a very personal decision and it's really none of their business.  Do what feels right to you.  GL!

  • I plan on doing the same thing a la "Knocked Up" ....just letting them know sometimes before the 40 weeks is actually up.  with the first LO, I was so eager to tell.  this time, I'll probably wait as long as possible.  I really don't want the "are you coming back to work" questions. and pps are right, it is no one elses business.

  • I'm going to be 17 weeks with twins when school lets out. I'm sure it will be grossly obvious by then but I'm not saying anything until I have a job secured for next year... if that happens next week, I'll tell next week.. if it doesn't happen before the end of the year, then I'm keeping my mouth shut.

  • I've told key people at work, just in case something went wrong again. Other than that I have no plans of a grand announcement. If people ask me if I'm pregnant I'll tell them.

I'm waiting until after my anatomy scan at 20w2d. When you share is totally up to you. I only got up the nerve to tell my closest friends this past weekend (17w). It's when you feel comfortable and ready. You're not alone. : )
