Don't know anything about the vtech to compare it with but both my guys LOVE the tag.
I mean LOVE.
My oldest will sit reading with it for an hour if I let him.
The tag books are the first things he wants to go look at when we're in the toy aisles at Target.
Our IF journey: 1 m/c, 1 IVF with only 3 eggs retrieved yielding Dylan and a lost twin, 1 shocker unmedicated BFP resulting in Jace, 3 more unmedicated pregnancies ending in more losses.
Total score: 6 pregnancies, 5 losses, 2 amazing blessings that I'm thankful for every single day.
Another vote for the tag. My friend's son loved it so much that she got it for my son's birthday. He loves it now too. It takes a little while for them to get used to reading left to right and to keep the tag reader on the same line, but once they get it, they're so independent about it.
3 IUI's and 2 IVF's later- Brady arrived. Born at 36 weeks after PUPPS and pre-e/HELLP.
IUI- BFN IVF #1 -BFP! Allie is our 2nd IVF baby. Born at 36 1/2 weeks after pre-e again
My kids really like their Tag. Now that the weather is warmer they want to be outside and haven't played with it as much. DD will sometimes plays with it as she goes to bed. We use it a lot for traveling. I don't know anything about the Vtech.
We have the Tag after doing some research. The Vtech reader requires a cartridge to be inserted into the pen, which I know would get lost. With the Tag, you download the books directly into the pen. My girls love the Tag! We also have the giant U.S. floor map.

My older DD loves her Tag. Now that she's got a year of pre-K under her belt, she can handle the more advanced books, which is awesome.
