When did you stop putting them in onesies

As the boys are getting older and older (sniff sniff), I'm finding that less and less of their clothes are available as onesies.  But everytime I put a real shirt on them, I feel like they are showing their bellies to the world.

Any tricks?  Or do I just keeping searching for onesies until they can walk?

I put onesies on under their clothes until my oldest outgrew the 24 month onesies.  With my youngest now I don't put them on when it is hot out.

  • I've seen them in sizes up to 24 months. We'll keep using them until she outgrows the biggest size!

  • We stopped at 6 months.  It just felt to me like onesies are for tiny babies.  Once they were sitting up and not "blob babies", I prefered them in shirts/outfits.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • I've pretty much stopped because diaper changes are challenging enough without dealing with snaps.  I tend to buy his clothes a little bigger to accommodate cloth diapers, so his tummy usually isn't hanging out.
  • I stopped putting the plain white undershirt ones on them once the weather got nicer. I just bought them some white hanes tanks and t shirts. The size 2t/3t fits them great. Right now I am trying to avoid onesie type shirts, i feel that they have outgrown that style.

This! We don't cloth diaper.. But the wrestling match that entails during diaper changes clothing changes has lead me to NoT do onsies. Except today he is wearing overalls!
  • We used onesies off and on until about 18 months. Hayden still has a few 24 month onesies he can wear but I almost never put them on him. It makes diaper changes difficult and he doesn't like me doing the snaps.

  • Henry still wears onsies. He'll prob continue to wear them until I can't find them to fit anymore. I did see in the 'one step up' catalog that they have onsie extenders. It is a piece of fabric with snaps on each end that extend the crotch of the onsie.

  • We have a handful for PJs or lounging around.  DD has a couple of sunsuit/rompers that are one pieces but not onesies per se.  I preferred t-shirts and other tops.  I think the key is to just get them slightly larger so they are longer.  Or, know which brands run long on your kiddo.  For us that's Gymbo.  Love their shirts.

  • I think this kind of depends on what kind of climate you live in.  I dress DD in onesies - long- and short-sleeve - as a layering piece to keep her warm and will continue to until she outgrows the biggest size.  I like for her belly to be covered all the time when it's cold outside.

If it ever warms up here I'll probably stop using them for the summer, except maybe for her to sleep in on warmer nights.

  • James has a few 2T ones from Old Navy and a few 24 months from Carters that still fit. I will use them until I can't snap them anymore! I love onesies.

  • My kids still wear them! Carters I feel run big so Preston who is normally a 3t or larger shirt still fits in 24 months ones! I don't put them on in the summer under the clothes but in the colder months I do! In the summer they do sometimes sleep in them when it is hot! So once they are too big for them or potty trained we will stop using them! I can't stand having there belly hang out of the clothes in the cold months!

  • I only ever used the plain white onesies under clothes during Elizabeth's first winter.

But fun, patterned bodysuits with snaps that coordinate and go under pants/shorts/skirts? We had some of those until Elizabeth was around 12-15 months or so.

After 20 months, 3 Clomid cycles and 4 IUI cycles, IVF #1 with ICSI = BFP!

  • I do a mix of them still - onesises & non-onesie regular shirts. I stopped putting them on under her clothes when she was like 3 months though....I thought she was getting too hot.
  • I put onesies on under the shirts, but now that the weather is getting warmer I think we are just gonna be showing belly. It's to hot for undershirts!

This exactly. But, I'm also known to not do a lot of "baby" clothes. I like the cute shorts and tees on kids rather than the onesies/rompers, etc. Plus, I hate the snaps! ;)

  • We still use onesies, but have a mix of about half them and half regular shirts. I love onesie outfits with pants because I find it irritating when her shirt is always riding up and I have to pull it back down. I also wear her in a wrap everyday and regular shirts get shoved up in the wrapping process and I like onesies for that cause they stay put.

  • I am phasing them out now. All of the 12m clothes I am buying are shirts.

His last onesies were a 9m size and those I just got for layering under sweaters during the winter.  I prefer DS in outfits that look more little boyish like cargo shorts and polos.

At their age and for the summer, I would get the 1 piece rompers for them. I like these for the girls, but they are hard to find for girls, much easier for boys. I ended up buying more sunsuits for the girls. One of my friends has a boy that is a little over 2 and she still wears rompers on him, and he is wearing 2T and some 3T clothing, so they do make them up to at least size 2T.

I wore onsie outfits on the girls when they were 17 months until 20 months because it was winter and I didn't want their bellies being exposed in the cold. I was able to find a lot of long sleeve bodysuit (onsies) and I just had to add pants to them in size 18 months. On the days that they wore a top and pants, I put a white shortsleeve onsie on underneath their clothes, to keep them warmer and keep bellies covered.

This past winter we are back in FL so is not as much of a problem and they were potty training, so no more onsies. On really cold days, I put cami undershirts under their shirts so they would be layered.
