Toys for 6 mth olds

My LOs are 6 mths/4.5 adjusted...awkward stage of not sitting up on their own plus starting to hate the swing and bouncy chair. I feel like they don't have a lot of toys/gear but maybe it's just me who's getting bored with it, not them!

So please humor me - what major toys do your LOs like at this age? TIA!

Do you have a jumperoo? Or an exersaucer? Those were particularly favorites before my guys could sit up. Mine also liked ( and still do) stuffed animals with crinkly ears and stuff. They have a couple of great ones from Bright Starts.

  • Mine are 6mos, 4weeks / 6mos, 1 week adjusted and they love sitting in their bumbos each with a basket of toys to pick out and throw everywhere. In each of their baskets, they have stuffed toys, all kinds of rattles (hard and soft), cloth books, etc. It's messy but it keeps them occupied for a little while. Also, they still love to sit in their bumbos facing their play gym and swatting at the hanging things. One of their other favorite toys is the baby wipes packaging (Kirkland brand from Costco). I guess they like the krinkly sound it makes. And lastly, they're finally really starting to appreciate their bouncy activity center. Usually, I'll have them go from activity to activity (like circuit training at the gym, lol) as they get bored...

In that stage, I used the Bumbos a lot to break up their playtime and give them some upright time.  I had one play mat and one A-frame play gym thingy that I hung taggy blocks from (the included toys were a joke) and I'd rotate them between those toys.  Ours were over 5 months when we started with the exersaucer and jumparoo but they probably could have done it before then, so long as they had the neck control.

That stage was kind of frustrating for all of us.  We watched a lot of Baby Einstein to keep the fussing to a minimum.

  • Thanks for responding! And okay...so I'm not too far off base :) - we have an exersaucer that they both love, a bumbo (DS is nearly through with it as he's arching his back in it but DD still uses it) and 2 activity gyms, crinkly toys, books etc. I feel like it's gym circuit training!
