I listed two baby items on craigslist since we are done having babies. One woman emailed back and forth with me several times on Sunday, and said she would be by Monday to pick up the play gym. I asked her what time, and she responded that she would let me know Monday morning. Did I ever hear from her again? Nope.
Then another woman emailed yesterday afternoon and asked if it was available, I told her I would give the first woman another hour to respond, then I would let her know. She told me "Oh, that's so nice of you, but I really hope it's still available!." The first woman never responded, so the second woman and I emailed back and forth FOUR times, setting up a time for last night, and I even gave her my phone number so she could call when she was close by (since it was after my kids went to bed, and I didn't want the pup to wake them up by a person knocking on the door). She said she would be here at 8:30. I waited, and waited, and waited, and then decided at 10:00 that she wasn't coming. Have I heard from her? No. WTF is wrong with people??? She couldn't at least email or call me to say she wasn't coming?
Seriously, like I do with 99% of our clutter, I think I'm going to make a drop off at Goodwill after one more day. The small amount of money I may make on these items is just not worth it.
Re: This is why I rarely bother with Craigslist.
I OFTEN have this problem- not only with craigslist- but with FREECYCLE. I mean these people are coming to pick up perfectly GOOD things for FREE and they still can't come when they say they will.
it is extremely frustrating. So I feel ya.
For some reason my ads make it to MD and I keep getting calls from people who are supposed to be here, that can't find my house, only to find out that they're in the same town as me, but in a different state.
Well now I know why people leave ads up even after telling me the item is sold. I was looking for a swing set and found a great one at a great price not far from us. I emailed a couple weeks ago and the guy said it was sold.
The listing is still up though - I guess the seller is leaving it up until the buyer actually comes to get it

I almost always end up taking everything to Goodwill, too. Much easier!
If I'm giving an item away, I decide on a day with the taker and then tell them the item will be on the front porch. That way, if they are a no-show, I haven't wasted my time with them.

That's a shame because I make such good money off of Craigslist. I am up to $500 in my Craigslist Cash Box. Yes I get quite a few people who stand me up which is frustrating but that is why I make it a policy to never meet somewhere because that would be an even bigger frustration. If they don't come to the house, I just repost it. And I NEVER hold for someone and I never talk to someone on the phone because that seems like a bigger waste of time than a 1 minute email.
It's FREEcycle, set it outside and call it a day. You can post a "curb alert", which is what I do so I don't have to take it to goodwill and if no one comes then I take it to goodwill.

I NEVER meet someone somewhere because it is just asking for frustration and is usually just a big hassle, if they even show!
Also, before someone comes, I ALWAYS remind them the price and it is cash only. I will say something like, "Just a reminder, it is $50 cash and I don't have change." I always through in the part about not having change because one time I ended up giving someone an item for cheaper because they didn't have exact cash.
I have had a couple people try to haggle me down when they got here by saying they came from an hour north and had to spend a lot of gas to get here. So what?! When you go shopping at the mall that is 45 minutes away, do you tell the store clerks you can't afford the items because you spent too much gas? That is your problem!
Yes I guess I do have my share of annoyances but I won't give up because I make too much money off of Craigslist. I keep the money in the box that I mentioned and then I use that cash to buy stuff for the kids off Craigslist or to go to yard sales or for the occasional treat once in a great while (ordering pizza, etc).

I do the same thing- however you still have to haul it back inside and answer more emails of new people or take it over to good will. etc.
I am way too paranoid to give some random person my address. I only offer to meet in my town though, I figure if they want it enough they can meet me more than halfway.
I've actually had really good luck with household and baby/kids stuff.
My brother listed a marginally working grill and had some trouble, though.
I can see being paranoid about giving your address, but I only have people come when DH is here and I don't see how it is that much different than advertising your address in the paper for a yard sale... but I can still understand how people wouldn't want to do that. I probably shouldn't do it, but for now I can't haul out 3 babies for someone who is gonna stand me up most likely!
Yesterday I made $35 selling a jumperoo and play mat
Today I made $35 selling a bumbo and diaper genie with refills
Tomorrow someone is supposed to come buy a patio table for $20
Over the weekend I made $50 selling a dresser
Not bad!
