Driving after a root canal.

Yay or nay?

I'm thinking nay, but DH would have to miss work and my family is too far to ask for help.

  • What drugs are you getting?

  • Yeah, it's ok to drive.  It's rare that you are put under for RCT.

  • Thankfully when I got mine I lived within walking distance from the only dentist in the dinky ass town I used to live in, because they were NOT shy with the nitrous oxide and I was a little wobbly on my feet, I wouldn't have felt safe driving.

No idea.  Maybe I should call in the morning...

  • I get gas when i get anything done at the dentist that isn't a cleaning.  They give ya lots of oxygen at the end and I am always fine to drive.

    <3 the gas

  • I've never had nitrous. I've only had novocaine. When I had my root canal done, my head was numb for six hours... but I was fine to drive.

As long as you're not put under and you aren't dizzy after the fact, you should be fine.

  • I'm an RDA. There is no reason why you wouldn't be able to drive afterwards. You will only receive local anesthetic. If you were to receive additional anesthesia, you would be aware of an additional fee. Nitrous isn't cheap! Even if you were given nitrous, it leaves your system almost immediately. When we have patients that are having more extensive treatment (like gum surgery) and they require iv sedation we make sure an tell them ahead of time that they need a driver. You'll be fine! Goo luck Hun!

  • I said "Nay" but that's probably more because I wouldn't go to something like that without someone else there. I rarely go to a cleaning by myself. I get really bad anxiety when I go to the dentist.
