There are tons of registry-related posts popping up on my BMB, and I just shake my head and think "too soon, too soon"...but is it? At what point do you plan to, or did you if already done, start a registry? I just don't feel ready (or educated enough to know what I need) but know that I may never really feel "ready" in some respects.

Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.
We started ours after our a/s. Basically once we knew LO was looking good and had a good chance of coming home with us.
I needed to get mine going because my shower will be earlier than most. I have to travel clear across the country to it, and don't want to travel late in the pregnancy.

Are you going to share your registry with us? I'm curious what folks are registering for. We are doing as much used as we can (for a variety of reasons but DH and I committed to being as "green" as we can with this LO) but I'm always interested to stalk other ladies registries!

We did ours around 24/25 weeks. I wanted to wait until after v-day.
Also (totally unsolicited advice alert), I highly recommend checking out the blog www.lucieslist.com. She has a TON of great info on stuff you should (and shouldn't) register for. Plus, she's pretty entertaining. If you sign up for her email list, you get access to her handy registry checklist, and she also sends out weekly emails that correlate to how far along you are. They are pretty entertaining, too.

I did as soon as someone officially offered to plan a shower for me, which about a week ago-so around 18 weeks. I know it's early, but I have been slowly adding an item here or there, I'm nowhere near done.
I actually have 3 registries-Target, BRU and Amazon. I know that seems crazy but I will definitely be having 2, and probably 3 showers, and no one store had everything I wanted. It helps me keep track of what I want to buy too, especially the Amazon one, I don't expect many people will use that but it streamlines the process for me.
BFP - Ended in m/c - 6/15/10
BFP - Ended in m/c - 1/2/11
BFP! - 4/13/11 - grow baby grow!!
I think we did ours around 24ish weeks. We also did Target, BRU, and Amazon. I thought the Amazon one would actually be used, but I was totally wrong. 6 things have been purchased from that one - 3 of those I bought. Both the Target and BRU ones are pretty picked-over.
If anyone wants to look at mine, give me a PM and I'll get you the links....I don't know if it's anything too exciting, though...

With DS I registered about 24-26 wks. This time I have one for myself only that is more of a to buy list much later (and I want the completion for the stroller). I don't plan to give it to anyone except our parents if and only if they ask.
You can start one for yourself and not publish it. That will give you lots of time to research and change your mind. It is a great organizational tool.

With my EDD being right after the holidays, I am guessing my shower is going to be early November at the latest, so I will probably register in September. I think that would put me at 18 - 20 weeks.
I hope that when you do feel ready enough to start your registry it goes as smoothly and calmly as possible.

I started a registry before I even got pg last time. But it was because I was doing a lot of research on baby gear and getting advice from my SIL after she had just had my niece. I kept it private and more used it as a way to save stuff that I liked or read good reviews about.
I started editing it with this pg when I was probably 8w along or so, since there were a lot of things on there that were not available any more. I didn't make it public for this pg until after I knew the gender.
This is how I approached it. I actually started doing this with our first pregnancy, because I'm a big research freak & it takes me forever to make decisions. The Amazon wish list was a great place to keep track of the items I liked. Once I got pregnant again, I went back over the list & added some new things as I got new ideas. I'd DEFINITELY recommend at least starting your research now, as it can get overwhelming really quickly!
The official registering started around 24w (I think) & we have registries at BRU & WalMart. WalMart was NOT my idea, but you can find a lot of popular brands/items online there that are MUCH less expensive there than anywhere else, so it's a nice option for guests. (Be warned, though: you can't register in the store--at least not here--& their inventory seems to fluctuate quite a bit. Most of our family/friends will be ordering online, & it's the closest option for people here locally, so that's why we went with it.) It took me a few weeks to get it solidified, & I still go back & tweak every so often.
One other suggestion: DH & I learned the hard way at our wedding to only register for what we really want/need. (We have some very lovely cocktail shakers & decanters that are just collecting dust.) So a lot of "little things" didn't make the cut for this registry (small things we thought were important included bottles & pacifiers, some plain onesies, & CDs to use as burp cloths). I didn't put any toys, outfits, nursery decorations or anything like that on there, because I figure we can pick those up along the way.
Sorry for rambling, but I hope this helps!!! GL with your research/registering!
