Pregnant after a Loss

Hmph... pelvic rest, exercising, and belly pains.

I had quite a bit of belly pain today- like the kind that makes you not be able to take a deep breath. I figured at first it was just RLP, but needed to call my doc about something else anyway. I wanted to know if I was still on pelvic rest and exercise restrictions- and I asked about the pain.

She told me I can do very light exercise, that I'm still on pelvic rest until at least June 15th (I've been on it since 8 weeks), and that I should definitely use my doppler when I got home. She didn't seem that concerned about the pain but said to call if anything changed.

What I find strange is that they continue to push my pelvic rest to a later date. I haven't had any bleeding since 8 weeks. Initially they told me that I would be okay at 12 weeks. Now it's 19. Anyone else had extended recommendations for pelvic rest, without being considered "high risk"? I'm absolutely willing to do anything and everything I can to try to have a healthy baby, it just seems weird to me.

ETA- I missed a sentence: I find the pelvic rest issue strange because they aren't concerned about my pain, and they are telling me I can exercise again, which seems weird if I am being kept on PR.

  • Do you have another appointment coming up soon?  Maybe you could ask for her reasoning then.  I don't have any insight, but I would be curious as well.

My next appointment is June 7th. The bleeding came from what they think was a cyst rupturing, but said the bleeding wasn't anywhere near the baby. I'm not complaining about the pelvic rest, it just seems like if it's going to be extended they would be more concerned about other things too.

There is no harm in calling back in a day or two to ask for a little more clarification on the whole subject matter.  I guess it seems a little weird to me to, but if the doc can explain it, I would try and roll with it.

Also, I need to post a shout out to you in a minute, you have been such a sweetheart to me and I can't thank you enough!
