Is this thrush?

I've had really bad pain in my right breast for a while now. I don't remember when it started, but I used to feel some discomfort in that breast after nursing every once in a while. Two weeks ago it became really bad and my nipple was very pink - even some of the breast tissue beyond the edge of the areola was pink. I called my OB and they said it was mastitis, so I did a 10-day course of antibiotics. About 5 days in the pain returned, but I thought it was because I had forgotten to take the antibiotic. I finished the antibiotics yesterday and the pain returned.

It's a shooting, burning sort of pain in the breast itself, as well as the nipple area. Nursing is uncomfortable but the pain stays around for hours after nursing as well. We don't have any other symptoms, though. No signs of white or pearly stuff in Nora's mouth, no yeast infections. And it's still only on my right side. I thought if it were thrush it would be in both breasts.

Does this sound like thrush?

Sounds like it to me, I had this but it was in both breasts. I am not sure if it is possible to have it just on one side, but those were the symptoms I had.

I would call OB and get back in them with and tell them about the shooting pain.

I left them a message this morning.

How did you treat it and how soon did you notice a change?

    Thanks!

  • Yikes, I'm not sure (I've not had thrush or mastits - ::BANGING ON WOOD::). Have you called/seen an LC? Are you prone to plugged ducts? Whatever the cause, I hope you're feeling better, soon.

DD had it too, she got nystatin suspension and a ointment for her bottom... I had 1 diflucan per day for a week.... It went away but was still having surface pain, but found out I had ezcema, that was treated with hydrocortizone ointment. ... Its painful to have, so when you get a little relief and feel pain still on the outside you are scared you still have it... GL! I can answer any other questions you have.
