Shaving after birth

Can 2nd time moms fill me in on how long until you can shave after giving birth?  I have been shaving blindly for now but wondered with all the trauma thats about to happen down there if shaving after we give birth is even possible.  Or should I just assume its going to a be mess down there for awhile during the healing process??

Re: Shaving after birth

  • I am a FTM but I will say that I completely plan on not doing anything to that area until my area feels up to it!! Since I wont be able to have sex and I have NO plans on wearing a bikini - I fully intend on experiencing the all natural look for a few weeks..

  • It's been three weeks since my C-section, and I'm am going all nautral, and DYING to get another wax done. My doctor said it was fine, and I feel up to it, but I haven't had the time with being at the hospital all day long. I hope to maybe go this week, and have her work around my incision since that part makes me nervous.

I think if you're feeling up to it, go for it!

  • Oh gracious, I think shaving was the last thing on my mind for like two months after giving birth.  I was terrified of shaving through my stitches.  And showers were like five minutes long.
  • Yeah, it was about two months before I did anything down there. I was traumatized and like PP said, showers were about 5 mins long with the new baby. I predict they will be 3 mins long since I will now be the mother of 2..LOL
  • pretty sure, though not completely, that the first time i shaved/trimmed/paid any attention at all to that was before my 6wk pp checkup (since they check you and your stitches and usually do an internal).  the pain combined with the ridiculously fast showers prevented me from doing anything before that point.

  • First timer here so no real advice, but I have concluded that, as sad as it is to me, I'll probably have to go all natural for a few weeks.  I'm sure it'll be painful in the very beginning.

Some PPs were saying that showers were like 5 minutes long after birth - is that because you were showering while DH was at work or something, or did it not matter.  I ask because I've always taken my shower at night and plan on doing so while on leave as well, just to keep some sort of semblance of my old routine.  I imagine that if I take my shower at night that DH will be able to fend for the baby while I take a long hot shower, but maybe I'm just way off base?!

    This exactly.
