To start, I already have a call into the nurses? line at my doctors? office to see what they have to say (if they want to see me or wait until my appointment next week). I guess I'm basically writing this post as more of a question if anyone else has or had a hernia during pregnancy. Late Saturday evening (after being on my feet for a majority of the day) I noticed that my belly button was rather sore and when I went to the bathroom the next time noticed that it had popped out. Not a bid deal, was expecting this! However as I was pressing around that area I noticed that right underneath my belly button it seemed to be rather hard. It is about a 1/2" across and 1-2" in length, didn?t really think much of it until later and wondering if it was possibly a hernia. I did google and found something called an 'Umbilical Hernia', which is what it sounds like I could possibly have. Have any of you ladies experienced this during this pregnancy or in prior ones?
I don't think there is much that can be done, I'm not overly concerned as it sounds like it is not affecting the baby in anyway, but was just curious as to how common it was.
Thanks!
Re: Hernia?
Thanks ladies. This is what I have found online also, but sometimes it's better to hear it from people who have experienced it. It doesn't sound like anything major and from what I've read, there is a possibility that it can fix itself after the baby is born. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what the doctor says. I'd just rather let them know and hear them them to not worry about it, then go in at my next appointment in two weeks and get yelled at for not telling any one
My H told me that I'm just like a roast chicken and my little 'done' popper has popped out. That's true love
.
We'll miss you sweet Debbie Girl (4.21.12) and sweet Cindy Girl (8.9.12)

Thanks Katie. The nurse did call me back right before lunch and she said that it is possible, but it's also possible that I'm just feeling my abdominal wall. She said just to keep an eye on it and if it continues to hurt through Wednesday to call back and they will see me sooner (next appt is 6/3). Since it just feels like it's bruised she said that could possibly just be from my belly button popping out. Guess we will just wait and see until my next appointment or sooner if it doesn't stop feeling so tender!
Hope everything is going great with Gabe

I developed 2 hernias this pregnancy, one around week 25 and a second just popped up a week or two ago, but mine are called inguinal and they sound a little different than what you describe. Mine are real low, below my bump in my groin-ish area, one on each side. They are like large round lumps, not necessary that hard though. In my case, the surgeon I saw told me if it gets really hard and painful it could be a trapped intestine, and then its serious. The key to knowing if its a hernia I think is if when you lay down flat, does it go away (your intestine slides back into place, and not popping out thru the hole anymore)?
They hurt like a b*tch after being on my feet or sitting too long, and the surgeon said after I deliver they should go away on their own (no more stretched belly causing the holes), but would come back if I got pg again. So they recommend surgery after LO is born.
Mine have zero effect on the baby or on delivery, so I'm mostly ignoring them for now. I don't think it warrants a special visit to your dr, but definitely give them a call, just in case its something else.
