Two Under 2

Hi

Hi,

I've browsed around the bump boards every now and then during my 1st pregnancy.  I never posted much since I was working and now I'm a SAHM to my DS who is 13 months and we just found out we are expecting again!  At first I wasn't as excited as I was when I found out I was pg with my DS but my DH was so excited it rubbed off.  At first I cried just thinking that my DS wouldn't have 100% of my attention and that he was too little to understand. I don't mind having 2u2 I'm just worried since I went into PTL with my first at 29 weeks and had a 5 week hospital stay and I'm worried it's going to happen again.  I don't want to go away for that long then come home with a LO and put my DS through being without mommy for over a month or longer then having to share mommy once I get back.  My DH tells me not to worry about it since it hasn't happened and I try not to but I can't help it.  I'm hoping that I'll feel a lot better once I see my OB this coming Thursday and hopefully she can answer my question.  Other than that I'm looking forward to having 2u2.

Re: Hi

  • Do you have family nearby, or willing to come and help for a bit when the baby is born?  Or friends?

I can understand your fears.  I had a pp hemorrhage with DD2 and lost a lot of blood.  I was bedridden for awhile and DH had his hands full taking care of me and DD2.  My parents kept DD1 with them for the first week of DD2's life (this was also necessary because DD1 got very sick).  It absolutely tore me up inside to not have her with us for those days, but I do not know what we would have done without my family.  That was seven months ago.  DD1 doesn't remember it, and she adores her little sister.  I think it will make me sad every time I think about it for the rest of my life, but that's a mother's burden, you know?

Anyway, congratulations to you! 2u2 is fantastic.

  • My DS was born at 30 weeks and I was paranoid the whole pregnancy with DD that I would have to be on bedrest or travel to the NICU.  All you can do is follow Dr.'s orders and pray.

DD was born at 39 weeks with no problems.  I hope the same happens to you!

  • Congrats!  I don't have any experience with PTL, but after DD arrived, I had the daughter of a family friend come over at night since DH worked at nights.  She was a godsend!

In terms of my attention, I actually worry my DD doesn't get enough of it.  My two year old is so needy in terms of interaction that I often just sit her next to us and let her play on her own.  I am trying harder to give her my full attention when he's otherwise occupied.

I know it's easier said than done, but try not to worry about it until you need to!

  • Thanks for the responses.  We do have family who live about an hour away and I'm hoping my mom or MIL can come stay with our DS during delivery.  If we go through PTL again I'm not really sure what we're going to do.  My DH said he will take the time off work so they can both be with me and that's why he is saving up his leave so he should have about 3 months worth of leave when the time comes.  If our family can't come I'm hoping our neighbor or a friend who used to babysit for us when I worked, can help watch him.  He hasn't had a babysitter since he was 6 months old so I'm going to make a plan with my neighbor and friend and I know they will be willing to help out. I know it's going to be hard leaving him with someone but we really don't have any other choice.

I really am trying not to worry about it and I'm feeling a little better about it now that I am preparing myself for the worse.
