sleeper vs sleepsack

sleepsacks are way more expensive than the sleeper pj's with the little footies. are the sleepers a good alternative to the sacks or should i get both? thanks!

Re: sleeper vs sleepsack

  • I like the Sleepsack for the little ones.  I personally like the sleepsack because it is easy to change a diaper in - which you will be doing quite frequently in the beginning.

I like the footie sleepers for a little bit later though.

  • My DS was very active, right from the start, and hated to be confined to a sleep sack or swaddle blanket, he used to flail his legs around, and would cry if confined. I liked the footie pajamas with the zipper. I could not deal with snaps in the middle of the night, but Children's Place pajamas have zippers, and I liked those a ton better.

  • I don't like sleep sacks at all for newborns because they tend to sleep better swaddled and they don't go very well under a tight swaddle.  If you really want to do a sleep sack, go for the Halo Sleep Sack that has the swaddle wings

  • I keep Cami in sleepers a lot during the day, and cheaper sleep sacks at night. I have a few fleece ones from wal mart that were only about 9 bucks. I try to avoid sleepers at night, because no matter how great the seem to fit she always somehow manages to wiggle her legs out into the body of the sleeper and wake up angry because she can't stretch out. I put her in a onsie under the sleeper.
  • We didn't use sleepsacs till we quit the swaddle. I still had her in footed PJs, and then used the sleepsac as a blanket to just keep her extra warm at night.

This was us exactly...we had a december baby with our first (In new england) so warmth was a must.  Also, you only need 2 maybe 3 sleep sacks total since they are essentially the blanket.

THIS...we used the sleep sacks over other pjs in the winter once we stopped swaddling and was still too young for a blanket.

I like the sleepsacks because they make it easier to change your LO in the middle of the night if you just have them in a onesie underneath. Also, depending on where you live, if it gets pretty cold in the winter there may be night you'd want to do a sleeper and a sleepsack since you shouldn't have loose covers in the crib.

  • We used sleep sack (like the Carter's ones--not the Halo vest bag looking thing) and we swaddled over that.  Later after we were done with swaddling we used the Halo sacks ($$$) over footies for the really cold nights, but we only needed like 2 of them.  We would use them a few times before washing since they were only acting like a wearable blanket.
