Trigger testing

If you have tested out your trigger, how long did it take for the pregnancy test to go negative?  Also, what trigger did you use?  I was looking online to see when I can expect the trigger to be out of my system since I am now 8 days past trigger and 7dpo and I am still getting positive tests.  I saw that some information online said that with ovidrel (which is what I took) it should be out of your system in 5 days.  I am sure that my positives are due to the trigger since it is too early to get a positive pregnancy test, but I just wanted to find out what other people had found when they tested it out.  TIA!

Re: Trigger testing

  • I used an ovidrel trigger.  Per my doctor's office, they can stay in your system for 10 days.  I had a faint line after my 2nd iui on around day 8.  It went away.  I tend to think it was left over trigger.

Good luck!  Hopefully you'll still have a line in a few days.

  • I don't know what I used, HCG 10,000 units I think.  I got a faint positive today at 13 days post trigger, 11 dpiui.  I'm thinking it's the trigger still.  I wish that I had tested it out now!

I'm thinking that there is a lot of variability with when the trigger goes out of your system, sigh.  Hope yours goes away, then comes back soon, if you know what I mean :-)

Wait, you got a faint positive today at 13 days past your 10,000 iu trigger?

    I think you should be good...hCG has a half life of about 24 hours, I've read, so that would mean at 1 day past, you'd be at 5,000, 2 days at 2500, 3 days at 1250, 4 days at 625, 5 days at 313, 6 days at 157, 7 days at 79, 8 days at 40, 9 days at 20, 10 days at 10, 11 days at 5.

Now if it's a half-life of 28 hours. there'd be a little more, but still I wouldn't think it would be left in your system. Mine doesn't even get a line on my IC at 14 days past 0, 15 past trigger, and I do an additional 1,000 at 2, 5, and 8 dpo.

I reallreallyreally think this is great news for you!

I don't know the half-life of ovidrel, or what quantity you take, and if it's just another name for hCG and the numbers mean the same as they do for that. I know for hCG it's about a 24 hour half life (I've read 28, too, which is more of a pain to calculate).

    Good luck!

  • Cville, I'm thinking this is excellent news for you, too!!! Call your doc. From what I understand, trigger should be way out of your system by 13 days past trigger. Keep us posted!

OP, I don't know anything specifically about Ovidrel, but I've heard for the hCG shots, your body metabolizes 1,000 iu per day. So if you did 10,000, then it would take about 10 days to be out of your system. However, every body is different. I triggered last night and tested today and will continue to test until it's negative, but I also have a booster trigger shot scheduled for Friday, so my case is a little different. Good luck to you!

  • I've heard 28 hours mostly on the internet, but then read somewhere else it's 33 hours, which would change things entirely.  I really hope this is good news for me too, but I refuse to be excited since our numbers were abysmal.  My RE's office says all over the paperwork that your period is not late until 16-18 days post trigger, and that the trigger stays in your system for at least 12 days, which I would be at 13 days.  Thanks for the good thoughts though, we all need them.

    Will keep you all posted.

And sorry Jenny for the post hijacking!

  • No problem, cville!  I hope that your test is a real positive!  I think that there is a good chance that it is.  I think the trigger would definitely be gone by that point.  I did a test today at 9 days past the trigger and the line was very faint.  I am expecting it to be pretty much gone by tomorrow.
