Cloth Diapering

Coconut Oil

Any one use coconut oil as diaper rash creme?  I've heard good things about it.  Probably not CD safe though right?  Oils would make the diapers repel?

No idea, but very curious as well.  Hoping someone gives an answer soon - going to whole foods tomorrow.
  • We've been using it since we got home from the hospital. It's more a sub for vaseline (moisture barrier) than for a rash, though. No problems so far - it's a vegetable oil that easily washes out with detergent, rather than a petroleum product. Everything I could find seemed to say it was CD-safe. It's a common ingredient in other CD-safe products.

Also great as a moisturizer for you or baby.

  • We've been using it for as long as we've been CDing and have never had a problem.  I buy the Nutiva brand, which is cold-pressed organic unrefined extra virgin coconut oil, and that was typically the recommended brand when I was researching it.  I bought my jar in the organic section of my grocery store, but amazon sells it, too.

PP is right that it's not so much a diaper cream, so if that's what you're looking for, this isn't it.  DS doesn't have diaper rash issues, but any time he gets any redness, we apply CO and it clears up immediately.  I've also tried using it on dry patches w/great success, and plan to try it on my hair, too, b/c I've heard it's a great moisturizer.

I'm excited to try it for LO. I love it as a moisturizer for me, now :-)
