Terrified that my pregnancy is Ectopic

I hope that this is irrational.  I cannot kick the feeling that this pregnancy is an ectopic.  I have had no bleeding, am not in extreme pain, am not pale.  I just can't kick this feeling.  My beta's more than doubled on 10 and 12 dpo.  I think the reason I am feeling this way is my NP told me my beta's were low the first time. From what I read they were not, but it is still haunting me.

Can anyone help reassure me that things are OK?

TIA

  • If you don't have any of the symptoms, then you probably don't have anything to worry about.
  • i was worried about ectopic too since my betas didn't quite double at one point and then just barely doubled the next time. i even had a lot of pain on my left side and called the doctor, they had me come in for an early ultrasound and my pregnancy is not ectopic, they found the gest. sac in my uterus. BUT they did not see a fetal pole yet, and the u/s was at 5weeks 5 days so I have to go for a follow up u/s on Wed. and hopefully we can see a baby....so now i am not worried about ectopic but more worried about possibly miscarrying. i think it's very normal to worry during pregnancy but don't let it take over your life. you are more than likely fine if you are not having bleeding, cramping, pain, etc. some people are just slow risers for beta levels. googling does not help bc everyone's situation is different. there was a really good website, www.betabase.info that listed betas for dpo but it was down the last time i tried it. maybe you can check to see if its back up and put your numbers in to compare them to others.  congrats on your pregnancy and try not to worry, i know its easier said than done!

  • I know totally different to your worry but this time round I had a totally irrational fear that I was having twins. I have no idea why. Looking forward to 2 u 2 but the thought of 3 u 2 scared the beejasus out of me. Had a dating scan at 7 weeks and thankfully she only found one baby in there!! Lots of worry for nothing. I hope it's the same for you.

  • i had the same fear.  i had a little gas pain in my side and convinced myself that it was an ectopic.  I got myself into such a tizzy that I begged my dr to do an early u/s.

Guess what, totally normal pregnancy, located in the correct spot.

Try and relax.  I am sure everything is fine.  But if you still can't shake the feeling, talk to your doctor.  Putting yourself under that much stress isn't good for you or the baby.

  • I had the same fear. My mom had an ectopic that ruptured when I was a kid that almost killed her (she lost a ton of blood) and I think that traumatized me.

Unless you are having the symptoms (extreme pain, etc), please try not to worry!

When I had my ectopic I was in an unbelievable amount of pain (right side). It was terrible... you would likely know if you are having one.

I wish you a healthy and happy pregnancy :-)

I agree with this post! I'm an ultrasound tech, I scan ectopics....if you had one you won't be on The Bump.....you would be in the ER because of the pain.

  • I had the same fear. My hcg was ok but progesterone was really low. I also had pains in my right shoulder which after some research found that could be a sign. So I just told my Dr I was very worried about an ectopic and he set me up with an ultrasound for the next day. Everything turned out fine, but I can understand the irrational fear. It was like once the thought popped in head it was all I could think about and I had all but convinced myself it was ectopic. My advice would be to get an early ultrasound to ease your mind.

This. And my HCG rises were acceptable, but not doubling, and I bled at around the 5 week mark although my HCG levels were still going up. I know however, that nothing is as reassuring as seeing the u/s!
