Personalized Barrette Fail

I was at a discount store today and saw a display of personalized barrettes. Some said "I'm 4!" or "Daddy's Girl," but most of them were names. Of course, I looked at the names, and it was easy to tell why they were in the discount store! Names on the pink, sparkly barrettes:

Diane

Tricia

Patricia

Donna

Barbara

Kathy

Cathy

Susan

Bonnie

Tammy

Lori

Janet

Tina

So, I guess the middle-aged woman who created these barrettes just went through her own high school yearbook looking for names. If you know a 3-year-old named Barbara (or a 50-year-old woman who would appreciate glittery hair accessories), I can hook you up.

LOL My mom, MIL and grandmother's names are on there.
  • Woow. I'm slow today. I was looking at the list going "what's so bad about that? They're all legit, and spelled right..."

Then I saw the part about how they're not exactly popular names for little girls these days.

    I got it then.

    Baby #3- ????? (ttc soon)

  • I know a 15 year old Patricia.  I call her Trish. It sounds a bit more youthful, and she doesnt' mind. I also know a Patty and a Pam who are 20. A little girl who was about 4 came into the clinic where I worked one day. Her name was Catherine (love it!), but her mom INSISTED she be called Cathy. Ugh.

I'll bet they don't usually get much love in the personalized trinket department. I was always sad that I could never find any keychains or pens with my name spelled correctly.

  • LMAO! I was thinking the same thing as I was reading down the list. Was the person making these barrettes in the 1970s?!

  • This made me think of a gift shop we went to last summer in Myrtle Beach thats apparentally has been there for 50+ years. They had a wall of mini license plates with every name that a person could imagine. Names that I had never heard or probably hadn't been used since the turn of the last century. Some of the license plates were so old looking that I swear they must have been since the store opened. I was able to pick up one in Matilda and DDs nn, Tillie. I wish they had the year they were made on them, but I swear those things were already antiques when I bought them.

  • Maybe the creator is trying to bring these names back.

She thought, "If people could just see 'Janet' and 'Donna' on a cute little pink bow, they would be able to picture a little girl with the name again. Then they would be more likely to choose one of these great names for their daughter, rather than something new, like Nevaeh or Addalynn."

(PS: Save me a Barbara! Wink)

  • My name (Sadie) has never been featured on anything personalized.
