Eczema - in unpleasant areas

DD has eczema on her bottom and vaginal area.  Anyone else deal with this?  What have you found to help?  We rinse her well after bath, I wipe her at home, she has been tested for infections.  She is daytime potty trained, with a night diaper (Huggies Overnight).  I wash all her panties separate with only Free and Clear Detergent in hot water and dry on hot.  Hydracortizone doesn't help.

Re: Eczema - in unpleasant areas

  • My DD had horrible rashes/bumps in those areas too. For a long time we thought it was related to eczema as it looked almost the same. Hers ended up being candida (yeast) that took up residence in her gut and just about every other damp area in her body. While treating the yeast we would give her Epsom salt baths to help detox the yeast and chems in her system from food allergies, etc. We also added organic baking soda to the bath and that really helped her skin a lot, especially her genitals. It helped her eczema as well. We used to use organic coconut oil for her eczema until we found out she is allergic to it.

I was also told that eczema generally does not appear around the genital area. My son had an outbreak in his diaper area, and the doctor said that it was a diaper rash not associated with his eczema. I have heard of girls often get rashes from yeast infections, so I would take her to the doctor to make sure that the rash is not something other than eczema. Good Luck!

  • My daughter is very red down there.  We use Calmoseptine.  It is OTC, but you have to ask the pharmacy to get it for you.

After 8 months of "diaper rash" we had seen our Pedi and 3 dermatologists our daughters rash was finally diagnosed as Exema.  Our dermatologist had us smear triple paste on the area after every diaper change and change our diapers to a hypoallergenic diaper (Huggies Pure and Natural).  The triple paste cleared her Exema in 3 days.  3 days was a miracle after dealing with the issue for so long.

Thing is I'm not sure what you could do since she is day trained...The triple past would most likely get on her underwear....hmmm

I also would suggest trying a different Overnight diaper, she may be having a reaction to it to cause the Exema.  it would be worth a shot.  See if there is a hypoallergenic option for overnights.  I know my best friends daughter had a reaction to the Dora pull-ups.  What ever chemical was in them was giving her a rash.

  • I would also suggest changing diapers.  My son has horribly sensitive skin and eczema and the only brand that doesn't break him out is the Huggies Pure and Natural.

  • I don't have experience with that specific area of the body being impacted. When DS was a baby he had some very horrible patches and rashes of eczema - in places that are not common.

Nothing helped. Then I had an epiphany and removed cow's milk formula - put him on nutramigen. Within 48 hours his colic was gone. Within 2 weeks the thick eczema patches began to disappear.

I don't know that he had a milk allergy but definitely an intolerance. We reintroduced milk at 14 months and he did fine.

His allergy testing at 1 revealed sesame, peanut and mold.
