Results from tissue testing in....Triploidy...anyone else? (loss mentioned)

Hi Ladies,

Just curious if anyone else had their tissue testing results come back with the chromosome defect of Triploidy?

Apparently it is not very common. Even less common is having multiple m/c with this diagnosis. This is my second loss and the first one was not tested. I think it mainly brings many questions up about the first loss and if it was for the same reason. Obviously, I won't ever have that answer.

My doctor is seeing us next week, then having us meet with a genetic counselor, but I'm not sure what to expect.

I just wanted to say I am so sorry.  My testing was "normal chromosomal issues." My doc did not say more than that.

I wish you didn't have to go through this.

I am so sorry for you loss. We had Emily's tissue tested and it came back as having Turner syndrome I am sorry I dont know anything about tripoidy. I hope you can find some answers at the geneticist.

I would suggest going to mayoclinic.com for more information, but I just checked and it didn't look like they really have any information...

I'm hoping the doctor has good information for you and there is a good prognosis for this condition.  Best of luck to you!!

Willamina- I am just a lurker on these boards beacuse I find it more comforting than posting for some reason.  I lost my baby In March at 9 weeks to triploidy as well.  I sent you a PM with all of the details so that I didn't have to write a novel on your post.

I had a partial molar pregnancy, which means that my baby also had triploidy. However, not all triploidy's are molar pregnancies. Hopefully that makes sense.

What I understand about triploid babies is that they have an extra set of chromosomes, and develop abnormally and therefore cannot usually sustain life because of that. Often have heart defects, lung defects, among many other things. I am unsure of what causes the extra set of chromosomes to form though.

i also had a triploidy partial molar pregnancy.  there is a good message board on baby center just for molars and partial molars.  my obgyn never referred us to a genetic counselor, just recommended trying again after 6 months.  sorry for your loss.

Thanks for the info! I read it and now I have more questions on my first m/c, but I think seeing a genetic counselor will help answer many questions
